Anyone done this?
I have managed to get a set up going through a tv capture card but the sound won't sync up :( Tried AVI and MPEG2 (record settings) but with no luck. The beginning of the track is fine but towards the end the sound is really out of wack. I tried to capture in DVI but it took up too much space. I am using the flyvideo software I have tried capturing through premiere but it won't allow me to choose that device. Help!!!!! |

check your sample rates thats where it will be going askew. ie make sure it will capture @ 30fps and playback @ 30fps for example.

haha flyvideo. man I had one of those POS things, right now I think it's best used when attached to a long stick & used as a back scratcher.
I successfully made a VHS video to DVD using a USB leadtek tv tuner thing, was just analog but so is my vhs. Sound is fine... at least I'm pretty sure it is now you got me paranoid. edit: yep audio/video sync is fine (I just had a look :) ) last edited by whoop at 21:52:11 27/Mar/06 |

That software will prolly work for you Kat. Change your record settings to SVCD for a start. Then change your capture bitrate to 3meg a second instead of 6meg a second. I think your audio sync issues are because of how hard your driving the hardware you have there.
Give it a whirl and let me know how that goes. BTW, the easiest way of doing this kind of thing these day is to use a HD/DVD recorder. Works a treat if you have access to one. last edited by E.T. at 23:15:07 27/Mar/06 |

But svcd captures tiny. I don't want tiny, I want dvd quality. Plus when I choose svcd I can't change the bitrate it is blanked out. |

you be hard pressed to capture mpeg 2 (6mbit) on the fly with prefect lip sync on a software soultion, hardware is only way to go, go out and buy a mce 2005 analouge tuner with hardware mpeg2 encoder.
or capture using huffy yuv codec then compress to mpeg2 (dvd 6 mbit) |

Damn it... I was hoping it was limited by the software, not the hardware.

I am not really after top notch quality. Just something I can put on a dvd and it not look stretched to all buggery and I don't have to worry about the VHS wearing out.

Have you got a digital video camera ( DV or Digital8 ) ? If so you can usually use them as a passthru for VCR->Firewire. record it to DV format AVI and then compress it to mpg2.
If not, then you could look at buying an AV to DV (firewire ) box for a couple hundred. doing it that way keeps the audio and video in the same file and in sync. Otherwise if you need to use the gear you've got, use the least processor intensive codec to get it on the PC and then re-encode it. |
