Just got it as I'm a huge fan of Westwood and not EA. Fired up a game of red alert 2. Hoping to play a lan game. But guess what. No network support! Anybody know of any work arounds for this please?

this is every single C&C game ever made, and their expansion packs. so you get like 7 games, and around 6 expansion packs. very good buy if your a fan on C&C as who could pass up a total collection? i might buy it simply for tibrian sun (spelling?)

You can't just install IPX and play. They have actually REMOVED network play completely from the earlier C&C games.

That sucks if they've actually removed it, why would they do that?
I cant remember if the original C&C had lan, but didnt it have modem or direct IP? TA's the king at any rate, that game rocked hard. |

I wouldn't be buying this package. Twas just checking out the forums at the official site and there are pages upon pages of people complaining about stuff not working in most of the games.

Yeah, as much as I loved the original Red Alert (possibly #2 as my favourite RTS of all time)... you cant go past TA being #1 |

you cant go past TA being #1...hmmm - can you say 'pathfinding pineapple?' Tiberium Dawn (the 1st Westwood release in the C&C universe) is still my favourite game of all time to this day. No useless units (like in RA etc), awesome soundtrack by Frank K and one of the 1st games to feature hours of full motion video sequences. I played it on a 486DX4 with 32Mb RAM & it kicked arse. Besides....Commando >> Tanya :) 'Ha ha ha - that was left handed...Bring 'em on!' |

Damn I wish I knew where all my C&C games are. Is this total package though all on say one DVD or is each game on its own disk and requires seperate installs?

Heh I remember spamming C&C 95 back in the day that was a fun game. But is basically like any other RTS just rush in with s*** loads of machine gunners (or what ever the crappiest unit is) and you can always win.

What began as a conflict over the transfer of consciousness from flesh to machines escalated into a war which has decimated a million worlds! The Core and the Arm have all but exhausted the resources of a galaxy in their struggle for domination. Both sides now crippled beyond repair, the remnants of their armies continue to battle on ravaged planets, their hatred fueled by over four thousand years of total war! This is a fight to the death. For each side, the only acceptable outcome is the complete elimination of the other. |

i got right into red alert 2 when i was confined to dial up.
never played it on a lan but my bro-in-law and i still play online. http://xwis.net/ it appears westwood bowed to public pressure and stood down and let xwis reign supreme. much better than it was with half people playing on westwood and other half on xwis. |

Empires at War looks like it would be pretty awesome RTS.
Anybody have it/played it and comment on it? When I get my video card back from RMA I'm tempted to buy it, it looks awesome. |

I thought the trick in TA was to make so many units that those people with lesser computers would eventually grind down to unplayble.

Rushing with the lowest build cost offensive unit first came about in Warcraft 1, it would've been Dune 2000 except not enough people played this multiplayer.
It's generally referred to as a "Zerg Rush" (sp??) because that's the unit used in Starcraft and starcraft was probably the first RTS to get significant competitive internet play. But regardless, people were certainly first unit rushing in Dune and Warcraft 1. |

The first unit rush is a valid tactic. If your base building skills are faster then the opponent you could probably pump out more units and quicker, then your opponent.

Ok, while I was down at EB picking up my copy of ST-EAW I grabbed a copy of C&C The First Decade, even dispite what I've heard about bugs and what not. I've just tried installing it and on every PC (you all know I have a fair few) I keep getting the following error - E:\ is not a valid Win32 application (Not just E:\ but any CD drive I try). I can open the DVD with explorer and see all the files on the disk, but I can't open a single one without getting this same error. Any idea's before I take it back down to EB??

E:\ is my CD drive, I was explaining that no matter what CD drive I tried on what ever computer, I still got the error. Since then I have discovered that this game for what ever reason, doesn't like NERO and it's been advised on the EA forums to remove all NERO applications.

I actually thought about getting this pack, but without full network support its a no go zone. Network play would of been my main reason for purchase. While the C&C cutscenes were cool, once youve played one C&C campaign you have played em all.

I did manage to finally get this to work and I have to say, you can never return to your childhood. Going through every game was a true disappointment. Graphics that were kick arse 10 odd years ago just don't cut it anymore and I couldn't bare playing any of them. I truly wish they would "redo" these games with today’s technology then it may be fun again but until then....
