RENAE Lawrence and Scott Rush have been sentenced to life in jail for their part in the so-called Bali Nine smuggling plot.

Ouch! Specially considering they were only asking for 20 years for Renee. I guess since they have omitted guilt they are up for a pardon in the future, maybe?

A SOUTH Korean man allegedly linked to the Bali Nine drug syndicate recruited "mules" to transport drugs from Indonesia to Australia, a Queensland court has been told.
Do Hyung Lee, 25, was released today on bail after a brief appearance in the Brisbane Magistrates Court charged with conspiracy to import prohibited narcotics into Australia between August 2004 and April 2005.

Mr Lee was arrested at Brisbane International Airport yesterday after arriving on a flight from South Korea.

Mr Lee faces a maximum jail term of 25 years.

And I bet when it's all said and done he's probably released with just time served!

just watched australian story on abc, was pretty crazy the shizzles thats going down with scott rush's family, and the aust federal police who had oppurtunities to basically do things right.

what they said was that the main reasons that these busts go down, werent fulfilled. ie, they iddnt catch suppliers, they didnt catch kingpins in indo, nor did they catch kingpins in australia. They caught the mules, and who are now going to spent the rest of their lives in prison, and noone wins.

If australia had picked up the people as they came into aust, there woudlve been a far better chance of knocking over one of the people behind the whole deal. basically all anyone got, was the indo police some more heroin to put out on the streets for their own financial gain.

Yes they are guilty, yes they did a stupid thing.

But they do not deserve life in prison, especially when the people who round up drug mules serve a maximum 25 years. That is whats not right.

The reason why they gave them such harsh penalties is to scare anyone else stupid enough to try and do this. If the "King pins" can't find anyone willing or stupid enough to hide drugs on themselves then it's going to be harder to move their product.

Yes they are dumb....they knew the punishment and yet they still did it, but a little bit of over kill I think.

Also another thing to consider. They probably dish out a high sentence expecting it to be reduced at a later date when people have forgotten about it to prove the point, yet having deceptivly harse punishments.

But at the same time, there's no way I'd ever try and do a crime where the punishments are that intense...even if i was threatenede or whatever, so I guess the Indo government has made their point.

BALI Nine drug mule Michael Czugaj was sentenced to life in prison today.

Lawrence has tried to harm herself at least twice, once with the ring-pull from a soft drink can. It is now likely she will again be put on suicide watch.
