Sleater Kinney were easily the best act of the day, Go Team was terrible, I went and saw Edan after fifteen minutes.

I was waiting for Wolfmother for 40minutes, not knowing the power was f***ed, and said f*** this and walked off.

The Living End were very good as always. Faker were quite good, Franz sounded good, the Presets were orsm!

The Mars Volta with their 2hour set were probably my highlight. These guys must practice all day every day, I have no idea how they can be so in time with one another, with everyone going off on insane musical tangents for 5minutes, but then everying busting out and going nuts at the same time. Amazing.

Iggy Pop is a complete wackjob. So AWESOME!!! Such an entertaining dude to watch and listen to. Good music, even better dancing, and just exceptional stage presence. When he got everyone on stage to go nuts with him, I really did wish I was at the front :( Really cool dude

Thumbs up to squarkyD, there was some huge bass coming out of boiler room!

All in all was a good day, ended bad for me cos my gf ate a wack baked potato at about 9.30 and then couldnt move cos she was feeling so sick until about 11 when an ambo dude dropped her in a lil buggy to where we were getting picked up. Those ambos at BDO do an orsm job, good on em.

Did Wolfmother actually play. I left to go see End of Fashion after waiting for 1/2 an hour. They were awesome and surely a worthy trade-off.

The grates a bit earlier were fantastic. They are truely one of Australia's best live acts, Patience's manic energy is just so infectious.

Magic Dirt were really good, Adalita is a hard rocking chick!

I had never seen The Living End perform live before but had always heard great things. They certainly lived up to their reputation, putting on a great show despite some electrical problems that kept down the volume a little.

Franz Ferninand were definately the pick of the day. Those skinny scots were just so damn cool. Very smick.

The White Stripes were pretty good but just didn't engage me very well. I think it was a combination of being very tired at the end of the day, being miles from the stage and Jack's overindulgent solo's and playlists. When he played songs that I liked, it was pretty awesome though.

What wasn't cool was the 1 1/2 wait to get out of the carpark. THat was s***ty. The bloody organisers could have at least sent some people around to let everyone know what was going on. Eventually we got out through the wrong entrance, deliberately doing the opposite of what was said on the piece of paper handed to us at the start of the day.

All in all tho, an awesome day.

hmm... from all the people i have spoken to, they have agreed that this was the s***test bdo ever.

they reckon the bands were boring and the boiler room was very average, music no different from a club on a saturday night (except played at a 1billion decibels, wd squarky!).

anyhoooo... i'm glad i didnt go, but good on ya if you had fun.

Yeah it was definitely the worst BDO I've been to, but still worthy $100 imo. To anyone that has a job, $100 is chicken feed for a once a year thing like this. Fun in the sun!

lil bro said faker sucked ass. he said the subways rawked hard and he got a guitar pick of one of them. kings of leon were awesome, wolfmother were good but their set got cut in half or something cause of power outages. franz were pretty good, iggy was awesome - he let people go up on stage and abused seccys and mtv or something.

Well of course it was hot, it's summer and you are in the sun. There was a pretty constant cool breeze for most of the day however that kept it quite managable.

Magic Numbers were my fav for the day. They were blown away by the crowd response and were so appreciative. It's nice to see a band really enjoying themselves and smiling the whole time.

Sleater-Kinney/End of Fashion were both really good too, very engertic sets.

Soulwax - I dug it but it was probably the wrong stage for them. Perhaps one of the side ones would have been better. They cleared the boiler room. 2 many dj's however were sounding good but I was pretty over it by that stage so didn't bother hanging around.

White Stripes were great, good mix of old and new songs. I too was about 3000 metres from the stage but it still sounded alright. Unlike where I was standing for Franz (just in front of the stadium), the sound was s***house. Kept dropping in and out and coming in waves - may have just been where I was standing though.

Iggy is a nutcase, but it was gold.

Also, sucks to be a Mudvayne fan - bummer for you guys.

I agree with strex to an extent... It wasn't that exciting...

but...

There was an amazing amount of titty there.

My marks...

The Living End: 8/10
Hilltop Hoods: 6.5/10 - Too Short (Mudvayne Stuffed them up)
Wolfmother: 6.5/10 - Too Short, Too Quiet (Mudvayne Stuffed them up & we were too far away)
The White Stripes: 7/10
COG: 5/10 - they're pretty strange actually... They sounded pretty rockin, but their drummer must have been having a bad coke trip or something... They don't play 4/4 very often, and they seeem to change their rythums permanently.
Shihad: 7/10 - Sounded rockin, but scoob got owned by the moshpit, and we were both pretty wrecked, so we went to the white stripes...

Ahhhh....because they don't play in 4/4 that means they weren't good? That's what makes COG so f***ing awesome, there music is quite original in my opinion, and I'm sure all COG fans find the same thing. I don't think rating a band because they don't play '4/4' is very fair.

I worked the boiler room so if you saw a dude running around on stage in a black shirt whith black/red hair it was me.

I dont really like doof music so i'm biast but it was pretty average.
Caged Baby - worst act of the day, unbelivibally boring.
Soulwax - Kinda enjoyed their set, wasnt bad.
Sonic Animation - getting old but still good to listen to
and whoever the DJ who worked in enter sandman, that was rock!

Sound was the best we've ever pulled off in the boiler room, was farkin loud and pretty consistant, wasnt even touching the limiters either :o Cheers for the kudos :)

on the other hand, changing time signatures and using weird non-standard ones makes music very difficult to headbang or mosh to

This I found out at a Tool concert where there was hardly any moshing at all because as soon as the crowd got a rhythm going the time signature would change

to have any balls rock needs to be straight up 4/4

Squarky, what systems were used this year in the Boiler Room and the main stages? Was it an L-Acoustics package like previous years or did Vertec, Geo-T or MILO/M3 get a run?

Sounds like a top day, was bummed I didn't get to go this year :(

L-Acoustics has never been run at a QLD Big Day Out that i've seen.

Boiler room was our D&B Audiotechnik gear, Q1 Line Array, Q7 Infill, Q-Subs and B2 Subs.
Mainstage ran JBL Vertec from JANDS as usual, about 3x20 elements hung plus subs from memmory.

No Geo-T up here thanks, just EAW / D&B from us and JBL from JANDS.

As for the power issues on mainstage, from what i herd speaking to some of the crew there the main generator died and wouldnt restart, they threw over to the backup generator and it fired and died straight away. Some seriously bad luck by the sounds of it.

Mars Volta were by far my highlight, f***ing amazing, every member gave 110%, Jon Theodore (drummer) is easily the best live drummer ive seen, f***ing non stop drumming, and he is a f***ing hard hitter, he snapped his snare half way through his set.

Kings of Leon rocked out hard too, very impressed.

This year was my year was my first big day out and I have to say I had fun. I tried to go for quantity over quality so I probably missed some good bits in bands but oh well, you get that...I suppose when so many GOOD bands were playing. You must all have high standards or just are generally over GOOD bands but I felt my day suffered from wanting to many bands. I think everybody was doubting this year's lineup because it was the first time many bands had ever played in Australia. I feel that made it all the better, QLD was there at the start!

Anyway, best band of the day for me was easily The Subways. Their live show was just so much better than their recordings. I was really disappointed with not seeing wolfmother up close but still I was sick of getting bumped around 200 or so metres from the stage - that sucked so I just left and watched End of Fashion they were quite awesome - still I saw their last two songs from atleast 500 metres away.

Hmm interesting, I swear I remember reading somewhere it was an L-Acoustics package a few years ago, with 3 16 element arrays but knowing my memory it was most likely some other event with a similar layout (i.e 2 stages next to eachother). Anyways congrats on what sounds like a terrific show, festival situations are never easy so hats off to you and your fellow crew :)

That would have been the Green/Essential stages at the sydney BDO. They run them side by side like the main Blue/Orange stages, so its Vertec on main and green/essential gets the V-Dosc - most likely due to numbers, i dont think JANDS own as much V-Dosc as they do Vertec. Would love to do the same green/essential stages up here with the EAW 760's or the new d&b line array when its released but the tent thing works well for now.

Well my BDO was pretty fun. I absolutely loved the presets, Next highlight was Def wolfmother (although i waited 40 mins in the sun in the D-bar, my mates for the s***s so we left, as soon as we walked out they started!!) :-9 wud have been rockin to see wolfmother up close, but they were still goood. Best band of the day for me, they played Minds Eye perfectly.

Living end were also awesome, i ended up in the mosh for that one, and a bunch of guys started a pit of bashing, during mudvayne i saw these to guys boxing on hard core, and there was nothing the seccys could do to get to them.

After that i have a three hour blank, but shihad were good. My only regret is not seeing hiltop hoods and 2 many DJ's, i tried to get in on 2 many DJ's but the crowd was just to big to get into.

All in all, for my first BDO, i thought it was pretty good. Def worth the 110.

get a girlfriend already groydis.

You might actually want some photo's of bands/ the day, as opposed to pictures of people you dont actually know for no reason other than running out of porn.I find it really creepy to be honest the amount of photo's you actually took during the day and the majority of them being of random girls...

Perverts with mobile phone cameras piss me off :|

I think I'll have a look at Flashgot, the rar file is telling me it's ~189mb a far cry from the excepted 40 mb :S. Maybe the directory is far too big for me to download anyway.

Thanks though.
