Topic: Optusvision Vs Foxtel, your thoughts?

Hi all, just got back from 3weeks in Wanaka/Queenstown, New Zealand yesterday. Was great :)
While over there we had Sky(eg-optus/foxtel) and we all liked the discovery/history channels and of course movies.

The point
We've decided to get PayTV over here but which one?
Im leaning towards Optusvision, are they much the same moviewise?

Futile excuse/pointless drible
Our excuse is that we pay around that much in hiring dvd's(more including late fees) etc so why not just watch em on the movie channels?
Ive had optus vision before but only budget version years ago so my view is invalid.

My understanding so far
Movies come out on foxtel/optus before they hit the video stores
same movies play over and over again untill new ones come out
obvously bundling tv/net and phone is teh goodness moneywise.

Im more than happy going to optusnet for 256k upload, and 20g/month @ cable speeds.
Im definately NOT returning to bigpond/telstra for anything so foxtel wouldnt be bundled with phone etc, however my google search seemed to say that foxtel isnt linked with telstra anymore as such?.

Google search has indeed been caried out, however i have fears for my skills of slaw may infact be s***house

does foxtel still open the comedy channel on all their packages for the month of april? i remember them doing that when i was still a student and that was probably all that i watched that month...

now: broadband + bt = crap loads of tv shows & animes

Because Optus only resells it.
Telstra = Cheap installment, expensive monthly rates
Optus = Expensive installment, decent monthly rates

Yep the free installation for digital on optus is really expensive...

I've had Foxtel for the 3 years I was living at college. Its s***. Don't do it. You're paying for ads, which shouldn't be in pay TV to begin with.
I can't believe how many god-damn Ring tone ads there are on Channel V, plus the quarter of the screen they use constantly for ads.

BT ftw. Just upgrade your internet plan. There's no ads, You can see movies before they hit the video stores, and you can watch whatever the hell you want, when you want.
Also, Peerguardian 2 :)

I care about f***ing ads for one..

Had foxtel before any type of advertisements and now I resent the fact that I pay for a service which main selling point used to be that it was funded by the viewers so you could enjoy entertainment without adds.

I fail to see how your a sad whinger by being annoyed at ads. Must make life easier just accepting everything you see and not having your own opinion?

there are ads on certain foxtel channels, ads like you see on free to air tv. I'm guessing they probably started losing money so decided to put a few ads in there rather than hike up the price. Either that or they're just a bunch of greedy money grubbers

At least you can watch a movie during the night without ads, unlike free to air.

they are exactlly the same price, we have Foxtel Digital and we were looking at going to Optus, the Pirce of the Packages are exactlly the same, Optars atm have a special going on installation, $20 intsallation, but you have to go on the Platnum pack.

Yeah, Optus never has special promotions or deals. I believe the current deal (just applied to it end of last month) is still going... free installation and $10 off the monthly plan.
Though the free install only counts for the platinum package, you can change plans the next month without incurring any fees (they've finally removed that from pay tv and internet). If you go with any other package the installation cost is $99 or $89, I forgot.

Does hNC+ finally save the settings for each channel now? At the time Optus went with the sync suppression etc, hnc+ was just useless. DScaler was so much better, but didn't work anymore.

Now I've gone back to fighting for the TV, oh how i miss the tv tuner

like i said were looking into it.... and the reason for that is we have both our phone and Internet with optus figured it would be cheaper as it turns out it isnt.
