A Warwick Thumb Bolt-On 6er - imported from the US (saved a s***load + only took 8 days). Pictured here next to it's 'little' brother (an FNA Jazzman 5) with my main rig. http://members.optushome.com.au/buttery/bassgear/Bass_Rig_20060114.jpg The older MEC style soapbars make it sound much darker than the FNA. I have to modify my LH muting technique to accomodate the 6th (high C) string, but it's all good so far. Ressurecting Dream Theatre + the older Opeth to make use of the new string. |

yeah its not light, about 12kg i'd estimate, was alot more when i had a valvestate 80/80 power amp in there (didnt like the sound of it so i gave it back to the guy who lent it to me). Still using randall amps, got a 12" 75w and a 2x12" 100w. Still cant beat the amp distortion for the heavy stuff, JMP does awesome clean tones and good light to mid rock crunch.

Nice one Bassman, how much did tax + gst and other charges go getting it into Aus? I was considering buying a nice guitar from the US but I'd heard after taxes it starts to add up a fair bit.

yeah I know someone who imports a fair amount of japanese Fenders, basically if customs notice it and they figure that you're importing it for sale (which you probably are if you're getting bulk guitars sent to the same address) then they'll slap duty on it
if it's for your own collection then chances are better |

handspan is distance from pinky to thumb tips with your had fully streached out. as for the car subs - clearly we arent talking car audio, take it elsewhere man, seriously.

LOL, what is is with men and their handspan?? :P.
Speaking of which, do you know a study was actually conducted by a group of scientists (male scientists - surprise, surprise) on the length of a males fingers and the *possible* relationship of this to the size of his penis?! Well anyway, there was a study done - apparently a developmental gene (important in regulating growth during the development of a foetus - known as the Sonic Hedgehog, or Shh gene - yes, seriously) is involved in both the development of a mans fingers and his penis. Anyway, to cut a long story short, there was only a weak, inversely proportional relationship. So the length of a mans fingers isn't really any predictor for how "big" he is. Interesting useless fact #393. pffft...my hands arnt big and i just measured it at 23cm. Well, maybe they aren't big hands *for you*...maybe because they are a size that is proportional with the rest of your body though?...(I'm talking about your height, etc btw). Relative to other ppl though, maybe your hands are big... last edited by Agent 99 at 14:15:18 16/Jan/06 |

LOL, what is is with men and their handspan?? :P. For bassists and guitarists it is of some interest as it determines how easily the hand can cover the fretboard. Context! |

i'm not a fan of 5 & 6 string basses at all, unless you can actually use them and aren't some obese dude in a nu-metal band who still only uses the top 2 strings....
but props on yr david eden speakers, how much did they set you back? i've heard an ampeg 8x10 with david edens in it and it blows away anything i've heard.. |

yep my next bass (whenever that is) will definitely be a four string, prolly a Precision
just that much easier to play, the B-string on a lot of fivers sounds s***house anyway |

yeh, jaco did just fine with a trusty fender 4string, extra strings just set you up to sound like audio diarrhea, which isn't so good -- unless you worship primus or something and dribbling butt mud out of yr speakers is yr goal..
i bought a black jap fender jazz-bass recently, half the prize of an american, feels and plays better than fender am basses i've used, the sustain is amazing.. |

^ Yeah yeah - pipe down :)
* Each of my Eden 210XSTs set me back $1.5k * I totally agree with you on most bassists with 4+ strings (especially the ones who use a pick, and can't play chords/pinch-harmonics/tapping to save themselves) * I'll inherit my old man's '72 Fender Jazz Deluxe & '74 BassMan10 4x10 combo one of these days... :( * Warwick B's sound great (aren't 'slack' thanks to the scale) especially through decent cabs with a low -3dB point (mine are 30Hz). ps - I love Jaco & Weather Report (can play only a few of his pieces, but am still working through his instructional DVD). |
