I have noticed that my dog doesn't react at all to other dogs barking on tv. Even though I appreciate the fact that a dog may not recognise a picture of a dog on tv as "a dog", I would have thought that a dog's bark would attract its attention.

Has anyone else had any experience with dogs that react to tv dogs?
Is there some sort of frequency issue that prevents dogs from "hearing" tv dogs?

I have a bunch of sound effects records, and I was thinking about doing an experiment to see if she recognises a recorded bark. Will post results if I can find a good sample.

My dog completely ignores the tv, regardless of what sound is coming from it, or the volume of it.

I can't say I've ever really paid *that* much attention to what my dog notices and doesn't notice, but I don't think my dog has ever really noticed anything on tv either.

Was looking after a labrador once, it went nuts to the sound of war of the worlds when the alien hatch was opening.

my dog lives outside, therefore it never sees a tv to bark at.

I don't think our dog even acknowledges that we have a tv

i think one of our cats (but not the other one) would recognise cats on television sometimes and kind of get up onto the television set and swipe at them with his paws

One of my dogs went nuts at a dalmation barking on the tv once. My Gran's dog also goes aggro at the sound of dogs on TV. Other than that most others pets I've seen are normal.

cats and dogs vision is better than humans so generally tv looks like it flickers, so cats and dogs with poor vision may pick up whats going on.and speakers are poor on most tvs so a keen animal will know the differance.

i think it has to do with the quality of the source. in some movies when dogs bark my dog gets interested. but she's more interested in doors slamming in real life than anything on the tellie.

i had an ex prison dog which ignored barking on the tv but growled whenever he heard police sirens on the tv, which he also did when he heard real police sirens(long story about waking up to dad shouting and finding a guy with a knife to his throat)he also barked at ambulance sirens on tv but didnt react to ambulance sirens in rl and ignored firetrucks both on tv and rl

My dog goes nuts when a dog barks or when any animal is on the screen. And when he was a pup a dog would run off the screen he'd go to the window to see where it went.

Yeah my border collie watches television even if there's nothing at all to do with dogs on. She just sits infront of the TV, watching, and when dogs come on or just most animals (horses, sheep) she tries to jump on the TV. Pretty funny to watch really, I'll try to get a video of it sometime.

My other dog likes to chase reflections on the ground, those light ones from a watch or something, he goes mental, barks and growls and shakes his tail. He's pretty f***in stupid really.

my dog pays absolutely no attention to TV at all. Pluss she's an outside dog so she hardly gets a chance to see it.

And when he was a pup a dog would run off the screen he'd go to the window to see where it went.

That has got to be the cutest thing I've ever read. Vids or lying!

My dog used to run up the front and start barking if it heard a dog on tv, was all like wtf?

On another note:
Any of yalls dogs go f***ing nuts when it storms (thunder)? My dog always went f***ing nuts.
- digging random holes
-trying to run through the door to get inside
- it dug under the fence and ran to my grandmas house which is 10 mins walk away (how the f*** did it know to get there?)
- once she got into the pool and starting swimming laps ... like wtf?

Lots more random s*** when thunder was on, s*** scared of em.

It was a dalmation 16 years old had to put it down though cause it was deaf, blind and had a bad back, used its nose to get around in the last years.. poor ol doggy :(
