Greetings from NZ, I'm here in Franz Josef today, gonna do the heli-hike up to the glacier tommorrow, should be good.
Started in Auckland on Dec 17th and we've driven through the North and now are on the South Island, Saw the caves at Waitomo, the stinking thermal crap at Rotorua, went to the big 3 volcanoes at National Park, but it was raining and cloud covered the peaks :( but we drove up anyway. Then down onto Wellington, across some nasty seas (I blew chunks) on the ferry to the South Island, Spent Xmas at Moteuka and boxing day cruising the Abel Tasman National Park. Spent last night in Westport a very isolated little town on the west coast, kinda depressing and eriee there. I should have some good photos to share when I get back, but I hope all you guys had a good xmas and have a good new years, I'll be in Queenstown for it myself :) w00t! |

Do one of the trail bike tours in new zealand, apparently some of the best dirt bike riding in the world.

We drove into Wanaka this morning (thursday) fuknukle, staying at the purple cow at the moment, but we're heading down to queenstown tomorrow for new years, went to puzzling world as soon as we got here :) I take it you're staying with rellies?
The heli-hike up to franz josef glacier was awesome, well worth the $320 Tollazor, I'm not quite sure exactly how much this is costing me, we're spending on average $50-60 a night for accomodation at backpackers (split in half cause there's 2 of us), a double room. It was $480 each for the flights here, return. It's costing us about $34 per day for car hire, for 22 days (split in half because there's 2 of us again) Then there's fuel, which is about $1.40-1.50 per litre, we filled up about every 3 days in the North Island, and just about every 2 days (give or take) here in the South as there's a lot more ground to cover with a little 40 litre tank. I'm guessing (judging by home much money I'm getting out) that I'm spending about $400-500 every 5 days, including accomodation, fuel, food, attractions and tours (with the exception of the heli-hike which I put on credit) The flights and car rental I had all paid before we came so that doesn't factor into that number. So if you can figure out how much that all adds up to, that's how much it's all costing. I definately recommend going with a friend or your partner and renting a car rather than doing a bus tour or trying to hitch hike, you have to pay for it but you've got a lot more freedom to do what you please and go where you want, and it's especially helpful if it's raining and you can't do certain activities, you can just keep driving onto the next location. |
