Richard Pryor, the groundbreaking comedian whose profanely personal insights into race relations and modern life made him one of Hollywood's biggest black stars, died of a heart attack Saturday. He was 65.

Pryor died shortly before 8 a.m. after being taken to a hospital from his home in the San Fernando Valley, said his business manager, Karen Finch. He had been ill for years with multiple sclerosis, a degenerative disease of the nervous system.

I watched "Richard Pryor Live In Concert" just last week for the first time.. well most of it anyway. 20-30 years on he wasn't that funny and it seemed derivative. I realise people like Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle are only around today because of the work Richard did, and base a lot of what they say on his stuff, but since i saw them first i just found it not as funny.

Compared to old Eddie Murphy standup it's not as good either.

Pryor helped eddie write most of the gear he did in delerious and raw.
