Finally, you can f*** iTunes off thanks to this handy plugin for winamp, which lets you transfer songs to and from your iPod using winamp. It's been about since Feburary, but i haven't met too many people who have seen it.

The best thing about this plugin is the ability to transfer songs FROM and iPod to a PC (and it's not 'locked' so it can be from one PC to another). It keeps the original bitrate, ID3 tag and turns it back to an MP3 from an ACC (or AAC, whatever the gay apple format is called).

Makes owning an iPod 10x better.

Since when does iTunes make it a AAC when it adds it to the iPod?

ml_ipod is good, but my iPod mini can't seem to play files that are transcoded with LAME. Basically that means everything is just directly copied to the ipod, so you waste a lot of space for a portable device. Really, converting to 128, maybe even 64-96kbps would be more than enough.

I like iTunes, I have no grifes with it. I haven't even got Winamp on my PC anymore, it pissed me off.

yeah, I've been using ml_ipod since day one (installed itunes to setup ipod.. a moment later google was my saviour). occasionally I get a file that doesn't work, but I've been reripping my CDs to m4a, tagging and sorting them neatly.. works a treat.

although, I don't use winamp anymore to listen to music.. I should look at finding an ipod component for foobar.

edit: posting in an ipod thread with an ipod avatar..am I cool yet?
