Well, it sure looks like it, according to this article on CNN about the games that will be on show at E3.
The show's biggest surprise, though, will likely be the revelation of "Prey". Gamers first heard of "Prey" in 1997. The game, originally about a Native American who fights several nefarious alien races, was thought to be cancelled, but quietly restarted a few years ago. The new version will use the "Doom 3" graphics engine and is said to be a visually striking title. There's no word on whether the story has changed.

3D Realms, makers of the popular "Duke Nukem" series, originally worked on "Prey," but word is they have handed development to a third party and are overseeing work on the game. Take Two Interactive Software (Research) is the likely publisher for the game, given its relationship with 3D Realms, but has not made any announcements.
Apparently one vaporware project isn't enough for 3d Realms these days.

For anyone who doesn't know what Prey is, here's a rundown of the game's history.

Hey, what do you know .. the Search feature worked!

Two E3 previews:

http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=96
http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3140842

Summary:

  • Based on the Doom3 engine
  • Much brighter than Doom3
  • Has portals
  • Wow!

  • I have to quote this:
The scariest enemy is a little girl who is normal when you see her locked up with her brother in the ship..until something happens. You see her get possessed and then her eyes glow..and then she proceeds to throw and impale her own brother into a spike inside her cell. Yep, Prey will definitely be rated “M” (quote: Gamecloud)

The full-res screenshots are available here

I downsized two of the screenshots for viewing in this thread:

    Enjoy!

Edit: Quote replaced with a better one :)

I remember eons ago in a Hyper mag there was a screenshop of Prey for the Atari Jaguar and it had the indian dude crouching down looking over a rocky ledge and there was snow everywhere. Maybe it wasn't but it's now becoming almost to much of a coinkidink.

    Hmmm...

The screenshots, dont really show it, but both the reviews make mention of it being brighter:

Most notably, everything seems brighter. Much of the game takes place in alien ships and structures in space, but outside of specific instances where it fit there was a welcome feeling of being able to see what was going on around the character. Along with some colors other than grey and brown used where possible, a dramatic film negative look helps relieve the sense of sameness that often creeps into such games.

    and

The game uses id Software’s Doom 3 engine as its graphics base and there are some looks in both Doom 3 and Prey that are similar but the folks at Human Head have done some work to make the engine do stuff that was not done in Doom 3. One such move was seen in the demo where we got to see a Earthbound outside desert location..in the daylight, no less.

    Yay for daylight!

A 40 meg shakycam video has been thrown up over at Prey HQ Pretty much standard fair I guess but some freaky environment effect happening there. Looks like its going to be very easy to get lost with the 'world' flipping like that and portals and such.

    :)

That shakycam vid was very cool. I can't believe they did all that with the Doom3 engine!

I checked 3DGamers a couple of days ago to find a legendary video of this awesome-looking game. It's 180mb and worth every second spent downloading it and it's not a shaky cam vid.

It goes for 11 and a half minutes and I've got to say I haven't waited in anticipation for a game in quite a long time, but this is one I'll be getting ASAP. Highly recommended watch.

The video that seven linked to makes this game look pretty awesome. All the screencaps id seen sort of made it look like another doom3 but its quite different. It looks very good.

Yeah, the avi does look nice although I really hate the Doom 3 graphics. It all looks too fake to me.

BF2 on the other hand looks very awesome indeed!!
