Thats right, we're back.

As some of you may remember, SwitchLAN nearly went under not too long ago due to lack of insurance and sponsor backing, but after many months of planning and negotiation, we've managed to save our LAN effort and have come out far ahead of where we were before.

We've secured really quite a nice venue (which is covering our insurance), enough network switches to accomodate up to 80 players and are in talks with several companies regarding sponsorship. It would certainly seem as though we've overcome the fate that befell us previously. But in the end, it doesnt matter how good our venue is or how much free stuff our sponsors are giving away, its all about how much fun is had on the day. Which is why we turn to you, the gamers of QGL, for your support and attendance. Because without that, all our efforts have been in vain. On that note, I'd like to extend an invitation to you all to the second ever SwitchLAN on behalf of our admin team.

But yeah, I'm one of the SwitchLAN admins as well and also extend an invitation to you all.

An extended invitation? ill be turning 17... Does that mean I get free entry?!?!?

We'll be trialling a web-based LAN organisation system to try and make our jobs a little easier. You can see it in action here and for those other lan admins out there, you can download your own from here if it interests you.

I don't even get free entry as an admin :P

That said, its all for a good cause.

Just a word on competitions.

We'll be running a 6v6 UT2K4 Onslaught Comp, a 2v2 C&C Generals: Zero Hour comp and our much publicised LAN vs LAN comp, in which we pit the admin teams of other Brisbane LANs against each other, which will most likely be Battlefield: Vietnam.

I'm not too sure about what the prizes will be for the two mainstream comps at this stage, but I'll be sure to make an announcement here when I receive word. We'll try and work out something fun for the admin comp. If you've got any ideas, by all means post them.

another thing for the comps, depending on its appeal, we will be running a natural selection comp aswell.

That is all...

The NS comp will take some planning before the fact, if we run an offline steam server, only those who actually have the game beforehand will be able to play.

But if we run an olde pre-steam server, the game will be ever so gay.

So if you're interested in an NS comp, let us know well before the event with your preferred game mode/version.

We have nudgeeLAN and GGF admins interested atm.

NS comp sounds good.

I thought NS would be a nice touch to add to the LAN, as it isnt really played large scale anywhere else. If we get enough interest in it, I'd like to make it a regular competition.

Is NS is good, I might even bother turning up. Sounds like it's not gonna be Just another CS lan like some others I could mention ...

Doesn’t matter that much anyway, Steam has done it job very nicely, but yeah it's not like they will be putting a gun to your head for playing CS, if you want to play CS go ahead and play, but the amount of people that I've observed at LANs that play CS theses days is getting quite small. As for UT2004, the NudgeeLAN Champions will be there :P

Just letting the QGL admin team know we now have a trophey for the winning Admin team for the 'Admin Vs Admin' comp.

We've just confirmed with one of our sponsors, T7-Concepts, that they'll have a stall there on the day. They'll be selling assorted pieces of hardware and will also be taking orders for pickup on the day.

I'm working on getting a pricelist now, there should be some specials posted in the order thread shortly.

pretty close to where i live which is sweet. But 15 bucks for one day.. where everyone will probly be playin cs and leeching goat pr0n leaving 2 ppl playing q3. thas bad.

heh, i doubt therell be any CS at all :S - so far weve somehow managed to either a) kb any cs'ers from our channel cause they were annoying dickwads or b) annoyed the hell out of them from constant complaining about cs then backing up our claims by pointing to any CS server and the occupants...

SwitchLAN is coming up this Saturday. We currently have 57 people confirmed, so it looks like its going to be a rather good lan. If you've registered or are interested in attending, make sure you confirm before the 16th of July to make sure you'll have a seat waiting for you.
