I strongly recommend that you dont get dreadies. I read once that a guy had a nest of redback spiders living in his dreads and then he died after being bitten by them.

True story.

I once heard that a woman had a full sized snake grow in her stomach which she consumed when drinking water.

BETTER NOT DRINK WATER THEN!

Noel Gay & Ralph Butler - Run Rabbit Run

On the farm, every Friday
On the farm, its rabbit pie day.
So, every Friday that ever comes along,
I get up early and sing this little song:

Run rabbit - run rabbit - Run! Run! Run!
Run rabbit - run rabbit - Run! Run! Run!
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Goes the farmer's gun.
Run, rabbit, run, rabbit, run.

Run rabbit - run rabbit - Run! Run! Run!
Don't give the farmer his fun! Fun! Fun!
He'll get by
Without his rabbit pie
So run rabbit - run rabbit - Run! Run! Run!

Run, run rabbit run
Dig that hole, forget the sun,
And when at last the work is done
Don't sit down it's time to start another one

For long you live and high you fly
But only if you ride the tide
And balanced on the biggest wave
You race toward an early grave.

Not important, I was just displaying how rediculous RevEvil's statement was through satire :)

there are 2 types of dread locks, natural 1s where u just leave the hair and after 1 year it eventually turns into dreadlocks, those are extremely dirty, stinky and can cause disease. If you get professional ones, u can clean them and wash them practically like normal hair, thats why i want to get them done professionally

just a suggestion mate: a full head of hair that is approx 6 inches long will set you back ~$350-$450. i got pricings from 4 shops on Brisbane for my head. so i've decided to just do it myself with a steel nit comb (a new clean one so I didn't get nits!)and some Henna Wax.
check out sites like this http://www.dreadheadhq.com/instructions/dreadlocks_instructions_1.html
good luck

umm, dreads don't have to be dirty. In fact, clean hair dreads best.

Rumor: You do not wash dreadlocks. Hair must be dirty to dread.
Fact: If you do not wash your hair it will stink. Dreadlocked hair needs to be washed regularly just like un-dreaded hair. You can wash dreads just as you would wash a sponge, by working the soap in and then squeezing and rinsing repeatedly to get all the soap out. Clean hair will actually lock up faster than dirty or oily hair. Because nearly every soap and shampoo on the market contains residues it was thought that clean hair does not dread quickly, when in fact it is the residues (conditioners, moisterizers, builders and fragrance holders) in the soaps that prevent hair from locking up. This is why we reccommend washing you dreads only in residue free soaps and shampoos.

If you wash them they look clean :|

I've been talking to my hair dresser recently about getting them done, and it sounds pretty intense. First you have to grow your hair to about twice as long as you want the dreads to be, as obviously you lose a lot of length when they're done. She told me she would perm the hair first, then wax it and form the locks. She also said I couldn't get the hair wet without them getting all screwed up and that they would require a lot of maintenance. I haven't asked her how much it will be yet but it's something I've always wanted to try so I don't mind if it ends up costing me a fair bit (within reason).
If I decide to go ahead with it I'll let you know how it goes, but it won't be for a few months as my hair needs to grow.

yeah right, cos tightly stranded pieces of hair are going to let dirt just slip right through easily

If you have to go to a hairdresser to perm your hair to make a dread, you izn't black enough to have dread nor you'll eva b da real G.

Was at my hairdresser's again today and she said it would cost about $800 (!!!!!!). She is a one woman operation so I'm sure it could be done for a lot less, but I can't really justify it right at the moment, especially in this weather.
So I just went uber short for summer, maybe I'll do it in a few years when I can afford it.
