Finally i decide to get one of them. But I really don't know which one to choose. GameCube looks cool, small-sized, and it came out later than PS2, but it has very few games, and most of them are for kids. PS2 is loved by most of my friends, it has DVD player, and many many games. So which one would you people prefer? Have you got one of them?

Number of games on PS2 that interest me and aren't available on GCN?
0.

Other way around?
Well, I own 3 games so far... with another 2 on the way, and 1 that's going to be available on all 3 big consoles.

Don't buy a console for the hardware. You buy it for the games available.
Only you can choose which is 'better', since you're the one that knows what type of games you like.

Depending on the sort of games you like I would go for the gamecube, my GCN get's used a LOT more than my PS2 simply because it has better games on it, unless you are a Final Fantasy or a Gran Turismo freak then go for the GCN, with games like Zelda the wind waker and Metroid Prime (2 of the best games to grace us this decade), it's a great system.

Most of them aren't for kids, per se, they're generally made so everyone can enjoy them. But if you think they're for kids, then go and give them a miss because you're probably not mature enough to enjoy them anyway.

Anyway, there are a quality titles on the cube. Metroid Prime, Resident Evil remake, Resident Evil 0, Eternal Darkness, Timesplitters 2, Tony Hawk 4, Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader ... if you're looking for those sorts of games, but if you're willing to get over the whole "this is for kids" attitude, then you'll probably have a lot of fun with Mario Sunshine, Rayman 3, Ledgend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Super Smash Brothers Melee, Cel Damage and Super Monkey Ball is a great party game.

Later on in the year F-Zero GX, Soul Caliber 2, Ikaruga, XIII, Mario Kart: Double Dash,XGRA: Extreme G Racing Association, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, Rogue Squadron 3: Rebel Strike and an awesome Metal Gear Solid remake (I think it's coming this year) are coming out. You may be wondering why I'm saying the MGS remake is awesome without having played it, but I have a lot of confidence in the people making it, and what they've shown so far is looking really sweet.

Further on still are Viewtiful Joe, Killer 7, Geist and Resident Evil 4.

But both consoles have their share of quality titles and crap titles... and a lot of it depends on what you call quality and crap. Get whatever console you want and if you regret it, you can always get the other one at another time.

I've had my cube for almost 2 years (I think... I forget when I got it.) and I haven't regretted it.

Considering they came out in May 2002... kinda hard for you to have had it for 2 years :P

Date on the receipt for mine is 25/05/02, which I think was ~2 weeks after it came out.

Game Cube is pretty good, but really the amount of games that are coming out now are basically for all consoles, even PC sometimes, and yes most of them are crap, so its not really gonna matter.

And what fraxyl was saying about the wide variety of quality games you have to choose from is very true, like for example lots of good starwars games are on gamecube (thats if your a starwars fan).
Also i find that game cube is great fun to have, when having parties with mates and that, cause you have a large variety of fun games, like Smash Bros.

Also wasn't there meant to be like this addon thing for game cube so u can play internet or has that like died or something.

I have both consoles and enjoy them as equally as much as one another. If you decide to buy a PS2 do not put alot of stock in the DVD player. It has problems with slightly worn discs, discs with high piracy protection in particualr LotR - Fellowship and occasionaly has no problem playing but goes through the sections of the movies in a strange order, hence Austin Powers.

Lately I have noticed though I am playing the GC more, what the fantastic quality of games out right now, and multi player up the wahzoo. Nothing like going out havin a couple of brewskies, start to get into the homebrew and watch the madness unfold over Mario Party 4 or Smash Bro.

And in september Calibur SWeeT!

Whoops, my mistake, Raven. As I said, I couldn't remember... but it seems like two years to me... time flies. :|

well, i have both the gcn and ps2 and both are great consoles. however, i havent bought any games for either of them in a long time (i'm skint :( ).
ps2 is great if u wanna go around on rampages on gta or having a race on gt. the shooters these days tend to go to all of the consoles so if you're into fps you could go either way.
the playback feature on ps2 isnt much good (y would u unless it was an ff game???) but the dvd player i've noticed does not seem to be as good as a genuine dvd player.
gcn is also good with a comfortable controller and lots of great games on the way (alas, no more rare :( i was looking forward to perfect dark zero.) and already in stores. and yay for the mgs remake! looks so cool, cant wait to play it :D

well there you go, either way you've made a good purchase.

finally, i bought NGC the day before yesterday, along with Zelda the wind waker, what a incredible game! i haven't stop playing so far, now i am up to the XXX woods(cannot remember the name...), and lots of puzzle need to solve though. After hearing you guys' suggestions, i feel NGC's games suit me best, they are very very FUN( maybe that's why my friends say it is a kid game), I am 21 years old, but still enjoy it, lol! and i will buy Mario: sun shine soon.

I am a Resident Evil series fan, i played RE2 and 3 on original playstation console, they are great. but i have some new questions:

1. what are Resident Evil zero and four ? I only see Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2 and 3 in the stores.

2. What other NGC games do you guys enjoy the most?

Thx in advance!

Resident Evil 0 (Zero) is the prequel. It uses similar, yet enhanced graphics to the RE Remake on the cube (Amazing pre-rendered backgrounds with fairly high detailed characters and enemies.)

Resident Evil 4 has graphical quality like the Remake, but it's all realtime, no pre-rendered backgrounds. But with the screenshots I've seen of this game, they look just as good as the Remake, but the advantage is they can use a dynamic, moving camera instead of fixed positions.

Almost forgot to mention this game too: True Crime. It sounds like GTA3, but with more depth, it looks pretty sweet too. It features a re-created Los Angeles, shoot'em'up, beat'em'up, drive'em'over type stuff, with loads of missions and play area.
