XSReality have an interview up with Swedish Quake god, Lakerman. Interestingly, his occupation is listed as "Professional Gamer". When asked about the high proportion of excellent Swedish gaming talent, he says:

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that almost every Swedish family has a computer at home, also the Swedish internet is very, very good, 50 ping with ISDN and everyone with a university connect gets 20 or less. That combined with a lot of talented players has made us one of the top nations in Quake today.

Hopefully as mainstream gaming picks up a little around .au, we'll see some more excellent players starting to evolve as well, then we'll be able to put those Swedes in their place.

I think we need the good connections first .. :)
