Topic: Micro Forte stacking the AGDC?

Bigkid have spent all weekend covering the AGDC, which is basically where all (well *cough*) game developers get together to talk about the industry. I personally thing Bigkid did a great job of providing coverage, though they possibly should have organised a shoutcast server or something.

However I received an e-mail which gave another side of the story. In this article written by one of the coolest of the QGL hosted sites Aus Game Jobs Dextrose asks the question, why does the AGDC only have a small number of Game companies, and provides good insight to some of the politics of the Industry in Australia.

After reading the article I headed off to Bigkid to check out if they were saying anything, then it struck me of how pro Micro Forte the coverage was. I couldn't read anywhere during this coverage of where the likes of Auran, Krome and Blue Tongue etc:

You cant call the AGDC a fair representation of the Australian game industry when three quarters of it, including entire states filled with game developers, aren't represented there. it's not just small people, its big successful companies like Auran that aren't represented as well. this has got to stop, and a real consolidation of Australian talent has to start.

Interesting stuff anyway, despite all the politics congrats to Bigkid for doing an awesome job of the coverage!

If you want to check out this article that has a different story on the whole AGDC thing, check it out here

Here is what I think has to be done. cut any links between the AGDC and the AIE. the AGDC should be completely independent and organised by someone not related to the industry, like Miller Freeman are in the US for the GDC.

I agree that AGDC should have nothing to do with microforte. If they hadn't started it though then there wouldn't be an AGDC. I got a lot out of this years AGDC but I was annoyed about paying microforte to attend. This is the reason I'm sure that a few companies did not attend. I think that he went a little over the top though.
