Apple have launched their new range of iPods! Maybe this is old news, sorry if it is, but these things sound so cool I couldn't resist a post. Check out the official site for the details, but here's a quick summary:
Smaller than ever (just 0.62 inches thick), the new iPod fits comfortably in the palm of your hand and slips easily into your pocket — and your life. At 5.6 ounces, it weighs less than 2 compact discs, and even many cell phones. And yet the iPod gives you a huge 10GB, 15GB or 30GB hard drive. Do the math: that’s space enough to store three weeks of music — played continuously, 24/7 — or one new song a day for the next 20 years.
Not only that, but you can play Solitaire on them, store notes, use it to transport files... all sorts of things. The price for the 30Gb version is pretty steep at $500US, but they look like very cool toys indeed.

I can definentally see myself buing one once the prices come down a little. Any idea of the mobility restrictions on these things (i.e. are they very fragile due to hd?)

Also if you buy all you music from their site (enough to fill the player) - according to their "enough music to play a new song a day for 20 years [7300 songs] the cost would be $12,878.33 {Inc player}].

magicRob if you are going to tell us something is crap you could at least tell us why you think so.

After all something you might say may very well prevent someone from blowing their cash on the same product.

i think he means 'crap' in relation to him having bought a 20g just before the newer models were released. not because it itself is crap.

This is much more newsworthy than a refresh of the iPods. I am definitely more inclined to just pay a dollar for a track rather than spend ages searching Kazaa/Torrentse/P2P-client-of-the-month instead. Plus, it's integrated into iTunes!

I feel much better for trading my Inspiron for a PowerBook now ;p

There's a bajillion services like this out there already; every time I've tried to use one to find a song I want, they don't have it :( Also, you have to have a Mac to use it (right?), so the number of people it is relevant to is roughly ... you !

Prolly would be good to do a round-up post of all the mp3-selling services out there - being able to buy a track for a dollar a pop is pretty cool. Apple should make it so you can browse their music library without needing a login so you can see what sort of stuff is on offer.

yeah a track for a dollar is awesome...you could grab a full CD worth (say, 16 songs) for around $16. And that's with all the songs actually being YOUR choice, and thus, worth listening to!

Fireblood: same, I don't know which to go for now. By the way people, you can get Ipods cheaper if you're a student!!

For example, with the educational discount, you can get the 15GB Ipod for about $730 :)

I wish more record companies would get a f***ing clue and start releasing tracks for a dollar a pop like that - there are about 20 songs I can name off the top of my head that I've heard on TripleJ in the last few weeks that I'd love to have, but I'm not going to go out and shell out $20 / CD for each of them. I'd happily spend $1-$2 buying them individually though.

This is a confusing statement, anyone with halfway decent computer literacy doesnt need to spend "ages" finding the stuff they want.
And I know for a fact that you are aware of better places than p2p for look, ftps and irc.

And yes, trog is right, there have been such sites around for a while now http://www.emusic.com comes immediately to mind, but the range is limited and this new one is limited to mac users, hooray!
