Thanks for all the info / specs / prices on buying a new pc but i have never lost my love for a mac.

5 reasons:

1. The look good
2. Ease of use
3. Love the gui
4. Based on linux not DOS
5. Better processing power for what i want.

thanks..

"The side of the box recommended Windows OS or better, so I loaded it on a Mac"

Or you can subsitute OS of choice instead of Mac.

True. I once owned a mac a few years back but switched to pc (which nowdays directly translates to windows) because of the broader game range.

The only reason why us qgl gamers are running windows and not linux, mac etc. is because of windows domination directx 'technology'. This powers most of all pc games other than ones like quake which just rely on opengl. Until opengl (an open source 3dthingy) catches with microsofts direct x 'technology' i don't think many people will use linux, mac etc. as a complete alternative.

Smart choice sticking to macs lad. Not only is the operating system about 2 decades infront of what microsoft can pull off but the G4 128bit processor(s) the come with power macs are about 3x faster than the intel equivilant. You'll have fun in digital editing!

1. WinXP looks just as good as MacOSX, if you get a skin for it, it can look exactly the same
2. Look above
3. Look above again
(note that I dont like recommending windows, but its stupid to get a mac nowadays)
4. Its based on Unix, and WinXP is based on NT, not DOS (mostly)
5. Depends on what you get really. A high end P4 will beat a high end G4 processor. For multimedia and games, WinXP, at the moment, is superior.

Not to mention, its a hell of a lot cheaper.

Playing games on the PC was like *makes scary retarded gestures*

There are a LOT of great games on the Mac.

Like Warcraft III.... umm... that - that puzzle game with the apple logo. That's a great game. I beat it but it's, it's still fun.

The confusing thing about PC's is just; you go to the store and there's just so many games. I mean everywhere you look!
But on the Mac there's just 6, and you know which ones are good because you've already played them all on the PC like 5 or 6 years ago.

On the Mac I can play plenty of great games that you just can't find on the PC now. Like Zorg, Breakout, ... SuperBreakout,.. photoshop...

Another great thing about the mac is upgrades. On a PC you have to open up your case, swap out the video card, change jumpers... on a mac when it's time to upgrade you just pick it up throw it away and go buy another one. Now that's convenience.

My name is Duk and I'm a gamer.

Well I used to be.

If you are a graphic person Macs are the only ones that do something with the pallete so the on screen colours match those on the printed colours, or something like that, or so most Mac heads point out every time I ask what does it do that a windows based app can't.

I know nothing about graphic design and this is a second hand comment from a graphic designer who knows nothing about computers. All warranties void if you have read this far....

That can be done on Windows if the program supports it. Most Macromedia products can do it.

it would be brilliant to mod an iMac into a 1337 computer, put on winXP with MacOS skins, then take it QGL lans and get dirty looks.

our whole skool uses macs, infact every1 gets their own iBook laptop, and ill tell you now, they suck ass! we have mac os 9.2 or something and it is completely gay, the piece of s*** freezes almost every 20 mins, s*** doesnt open and in general it is gay.

im sure with mac os x, blah blah it would be better, but having experience with both a mac and a pc, i will always go with pc

i would have thought if your going to be diong important s*** like web design/sound and video editing etc that you'd want a computer that doesnt crash everytime you start it up....

read this before you say anymore about macs: (it's not that much)
http://www.apple.com/powermac/architecture.htmlhttp://www.apple.com/powermac/processor.html

Look at:
javascript:var navWin = window.open('http://www.apple.com/r/store/gallery/powermac/1.html','NewWin', 'toolbar=no,menubar=no,location=no,directories=no,status=no,resizable=false,width=480,height=350')

and generally the info on the mac site. A LOT has changed from the G3 days...

I think these are the reasons why i don't own a mac atm:
like linux, it can't support direct x and hence not that many games

you have hardly any choice on the hardware, just human interface, graphics, ram, video card. on the other hand, it absolutly cleans up all that pcs can offer, so all in all it weighs up.

my computer is only 2 years old

microsoft hasn't suddenly gone bankrupt

i remember i went into one of those general electronic stores, and a salesman tried to sell me a mac, he put a music cd in and it just sat there, he took it out and it froze.

I used them at school aswell, the imacs, 1 button mice, i mean wtf is that. small keyboards, the arrow keys were about 1/3 the size of a normal keyboard, it basically felt like you were using a laptop

Locked, because:

a) subject is useless
b) apparent flamebait - if you're going to start a thread like this, at least stick around to defend your position
