Ferrago.uk have a preview of the forthcoming HL2 sequel.
Alongside the immersiveness of the game world and the compelling storyline it was the AI of Half-Life that brought the game to such vivid life. This time round they will be less reliant on scripted events, no longer to the degree that once an event is triggered it will pan out the same every time, such as the scientists falling to their deaths in the lift at the begining of the game. Rather, the AI will be more focused on what is happening around it and deciding on how to react accordingly. An example given in the magazine is of a radio lying on the ground, hissing out static which draws a character towards it to have a listen. If the player were then to shoot out the radio then the AI will have to figure out what a reasonable reaction would be. Another example is of the AI being confronted with a door. In the past you were probably safe behind a door, due to the mysterious ability of doors to reset the baddies memory and make your existence, well, non-existent. This time you will have to keep in mind that the enemy can burst through the door, open it, burn it or drill a hole clean through. The enemies will be able to climb ladders and jump up to places that even the player can’t reach. Yes folks, this time you really are going to be fighting for your life.
Might be something for us to enjoy until DOOM arrvies.

for a game thats suppose to rival doom3 those screenshots don't look all that impressive but im not going to make any real decisions until i play it or see some running footage.

yeah, its amazing how many people are basing their judgements on some blurry low res scans of magazines with sketchy material anyway :) You need moving images to properly tell if it looks any good let alone actual play testing...

Dare I say that many people will need serious PC upgrades to get the most out of Doom 3 or Half Life 2.

Nothing like a good game to spur growth into the PC market.

Cheers !

not at all, i want to play it because it is halflife2, i enjoyed playing halflife and i will prolly enjoy playing hlflife2.
it is just like i enjoyed playing systemshock 1 and 2.

i want to play it because i want to play it and i don't really give a flying f*** about the screen shots.

as for this doom killer s***, i don't care about that, i would like to play doom3 as i played doom1 and 2

i am a gamer i enjoy playing all games, this quake vs halflife vs doom s*** is just that to me... s***

hah

whats the launch date for d3 again?

so far, I havent seen anything that allows me to gauge the quality of the HL2 engine, unless I missed something dramatic, all those pics were were ~100x100px images that didnt look like they were in game...

pfft... that means a lot.

Half Life 2 will be great. Only a few more sleeps and it'll be here.
