I know its done before, but just want to know for sure.

Need to buy headphones for my dad for christmas.

I saw the Philips HP610 headphones for $140 down to $99.

Now I dont know much about headphones, are these the best to get for the price?

Do not want to spend more then $100

I personally have a pair of "Digital" head phones, whether their still made or not I dunno, but they fkn kick arse, they go louder than what my speakers do..

From most places u can get "digitor" which are okay, the big chunky ones which cover ur whole ear so u can't hear anyone yellin in ur ear..

But I wouldn't spend anything over $100 just on a pair of headphones..

btw, philips suck.

The Philips HP890s are widely recognised as the best gear you can buy for just over $100. you can get them from JB or from www.maitec.com.au

The KOSS are also good.

i sometimes break out the oldschool 70's style recording headphones. Oh my god they do rock, especially with the foam around the ears all being torn away :D

They are well worth the money you pay for it

I tried em. I dont like them... Way too much bass, so so midrange and feel so cheap.

Another alternative *for those looking for some headphones* is to camp out www.ebay.com.au

I reccomend the the Sennheiser HD 497's which is one of the best 'budget priced' headphones and is Audiophile quality.

RRP 179AUD. I picked one up at ebay for 125AUD including PH.

As a side note, those ear plug type headphones you use with walkmans, are more likely to cause serious hearing damage than any other type of noise, due to the constant vibrations being created.

I like the old school cover ya ears type headphones myself. Mine are yonks old but still rock, they cost s***loads 12years ago when I brought them, but the ole Luxman's still rock.

you'll find videopro is about 1km from qgl/anz stadium

head towards garden city along kessels road, and on the right hand side of the road before it bends around left, there's a big crazy clarks store, and next to it is a big ryder's bicycle place. in between these two buildings is a carpark and some stores along it. you'll find videopro is in there, next to amart allsports

"AKG's have AWESOME bass. "

Yes they do. Hard Bass... Not Warm but hard.

I still reccomend that you go the extra 50 bucks to get audiophile quality BUT, BUT, BUT I will have to agree they are #_excellent_# headphones at that price range.

I was going to buy them myself but pulled out at the last minuite to get my Sennheisers...

I'll go over my findings.

GOOD
-'Cheap'
- _VERY_ Comfy
- Light
- Long Cable
- GREAT Bass
- Overall nice sound
- Look nice
- Closed headphones
- Can Driven by portable players easily

BAD
- Feel Cheap
- Too much bass for instrumentals
- Lacking mid-range
- Look/feel so fragile

Overall
If you are used to low end headphones *mine were 25AUD Big W brand till I sat on them* these are _great_! I was blown away by the depth and quality... BUT then I listend to audiophile quality headphones....

So if you dont want to spend more than 80AUD these are the headphones to get!!!

Where to get them!?

There is a store that sells them inside Garden City near the Megaplex *which is near ANZ*

Its some piano store to the left of the Ex Lease computer store and that 'Warhammer' shop. This is where David Jones use to be before they turned it into a parking lot.

JB High Fi near Bad Girls / Govt Buliding / Park have a nice range... of course they dont let you '''try''' the headphones. Sales assistant had to ask her supervisor who in turn asked his supervisor who then asked the manager who said 'you'll have to buy em sorry'

hmuffin, dont know if you were talking about the AKG 66 headphones, but they are fantastic to mix live music with, iv used them for guitar flutes and other instruments at my work when doing a show, sounded fantastic and made it great to mix cause FOH followed behind making it an easy mix.

I love my AKG headphones and would buy anything else ( afaic senheisser only make good mics :P )

If you want a place in the city, video pro is in there in....george street i THINK! dont hold me to that. I got a cash discount at videopro as well, so you might get $10 off if you pay cash.
