Just wondering if anyone new if there was any other free 'shards' for Asheron's Call cos i have a copy of it here just collecting dust. Was an unwanted gift and I haven't yet used the free month.
It had been done with UO in the form of UOx. People were able to make their own shards in which to play and I would be greatly pleased if this was possible with Asheron's Call. I know i'm a pov bastard that can't afford $15 a month on a game but that's just how it is.

Bahahahha

not likely

they are close to making an offline everquest, but they have a long way to go

asheron's call on the other hand is FAAAAARR more complex and it has no zones

it's all one big world that loads as you go

good f***ing luck coding an emulator for AC

Sorry trank, you'll have to pay the 15$ dorrah a month and come play with me and khel

Even if they could come up with an offline AC it'd suck ass. No other people to interact with, no monthly updates and dynamic events/quests.

Plus, with UOx, all you got was an empty world, still had to fill it with buildings, cities, monsters, dungeons, etc, so even if they could do this with AC it'd be silly and worthless.

Hmm. I might go and purchase EverQuest sometime soon. It seems to have a more stable base than Asheron's Call. I hear a lot more about Everquest than AC. Although it was originally pretty s*** i hear they've made it fairly good nowadays. ohh well. i should just get off my arse and get a job.

The ethernalQuest you can make a world. But you can only travle to zones if you type in the command, and you can not have static spawns, you have to spawn everything your self. Lastly you can not fight anything yet ...

The UOx thing was a bit gay, I know of people that have quite sucessfull games on it. But realy its a bit blurk.

BTW AC has zones, it just precaches them as you run towards the zone wall. Thats why you often get a rubber band effect as you pass though certian areas.

Trakility, the only thing everquest has over AC is the social interaction and the ability to shout across a zone to invite people to fight with you.

Other than that, EQ is absolute f***ing s***

If you ask nicely i might write up a rant txt file about what's good (very little) and what's not about EQ

trank, AC has just as stable a base as Everquest. When I say they update it each month, I dont mean they find new bugs and problems to fix each month, I mean they add to the game. New quests, new spells, new items, new monsters, new dungeons, etc. AC also has a constantly evolving storyline which is updated each month.

Everquest is updated each month to you know (or maybe more regularly, I can't remember). Its just with Everquest theres no main storyline going on behind everything so they updates are usually involved with just quests/items/spells/monster/etc.

These are MMORPG's we're talking about, you can't apply normal game development style logic to them, it just doesn't work that way. These games operate on levels far above and beyond the average multiplayer rpg :)

Can i add to that?

Asheron's Call: Updates once a month for storyline and world changes, bugfixes

Everquest: Updates once or twice a week to fix bugs or "tweak" the game further to make it more "balanced"

Can i also mention that Verant have been "tweaking" Everquest for close to 2 years now? They've COMPLETELY f***ed everything up, the game is totally unplayable now and it's still f***ing boring
