I don't think anyone's saying "keep everything on topic". The car and GF threads are IMO on-topic, because they are topics that a majority of people obviously want to talk about.

Getting back to the original point, replying to every thread just to get your name listed in 'last post' for every thread just contributes spam, and isn't even original. I guess what we're asking is that you think for two seconds before making a post about whether you are actually contributing something useful to a discussion.
