At this morning's Ubisoft Forward, alongside information of the next Assassin's Creed installment in Assassin's Creed Mirage, the company also revealed its plans for the franchise moving forward which includes at least two open-world ARPG entries in the vein of the last three titles, a full mobile offering and a still-somewhat-confusing concept relating to a social and multiplayer hub through which all Assassin's Creed activities moving forward take place.

First up is perhaps the most exciting revelation, which is that Ubisoft Quebec (Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Immortals Fenyx Rising) is hard at work on the next open-world action-RPG flagship entry in the franchise, Assassin's Creed Codename RED, set in Feudal Japan -- a setting that has long been requested from fans having been hinted at as a playground all the way back in AC1.
Assassin’s Creed Codename RED is the next flagship title after Assassin’s Creed Mirage and the future of the open world RPG in Assassin’s Creed. It is being developed by Ubisoft Quebec, the studio behind Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, with Jonathan Dumont as Creative Director. Here players will be able to explore a long-awaited setting for an Assassin’s Creed game: feudal Japan and all its shinobi fantasies.

The above is followed by news that Clint Hocking and the OG team at Ubisoft Montreal are working on a very different type of Assassin's Creed experience, Assassin's Creed Hexe, which can only be described as a Wickerpunk-type of setting where witches and other dark magiks threaten the world of men. There's a hidden message in the game's reveal video which we'll just wait for Internet sleuths to uncover, so stay tuned for more on that soon.

Assassin's Creed Jade is a AAA RPG for mobile, and takes the franchise to Ancient China where you'll be able to perform parkour on The Great Wall of China.
Players will be able to create their own character and discover the story of the first Assassins in China. It will be free to play.
What the actual pay model for this looks like will remain to be seen, but on the surface Jade looks very impressive and features custom animations and movements for the platform, according to Ubisoft.

Finally, both RED and HEXE will be part of Assassin's Creed Infinity, a player hub that will become the central home through which players launch their Assassin's Creed journeys moving forward. It will also feature standalone multiplayer in some capacity yet to be revealed.
Assassin’s Creed Codename INFINITY will connect projects and players through different types of experiences, including released Assassin’s Creed games and the next ones to launch: Codename Red and Codename HEXE, the next two HD flagship games. As part of Codename INFINITY, multiplayer is set to return as a standalone experience in the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
In addition to all of the above, Ubisoft and Netflix are developing a live-action series that not a lot is known about just yet, however, Netflix is also working with Ubi to bring an original AC game to its Netflix gaming platform.

There's a lot to delve into there, but as hardcore, diehard fans of the core experience, it's difficult to not be most excited for the next projects beyond Mirage in RED and HEXE, though with all three we are definitely looking spoiled for all things Hidden One from now and into the future.

The fresh outlay of content for Assassin's Creed will kick off this year with The Final Chapter -- a free DLC for Assassin's Creed Valhalla set to wrap up a lot of the loose ends of that game and its myriad stories, and to hopefully tease more of Basim as we lead into his origin story in Mirage.

Stay tuned for more on everything above, right here on AusGamers.

Hmmmm, as an 'original' fan of the series and someone who has stuck with it throughout, besides the Japan teaser info, the rest is honestly not appealing at all.

With the Mirage announcement, I was hopeful Ubisoft would return - quite correctly - to the series roots....but reading this make me feel they have missed the message from the hardcore supporters of the series completely and seem to be missing what the series represents. Unity was the benchmark for the right mix of RPG and core AC values of gameplay and AAA story telling. I'll have to wait and see where this goes.....
