self-renewing needs several moving parts in a load-balanced scenario so they're pretty prone to failure. even single-server letsencrypt renewals fail all the time for one reason or another, so they're not a panacea to missing the expiration. instead I added the ssl url for ausgamers to the monitoring we use for customer certs which warns us ahead of time in a format we pay attention to
