I was bored, so I bought the latest issue of PC Gamer (UK). In it was a letter from someone who says 'GoldenEye pisses on the head of Half-Life from a great height' and 'as Perfect Dark has now been released and is now THE definitive FPS'

I went to QGL, don't get me wrong, Pc's are f***ing great but I still like sitting back on the couch or in the comfy lounge chair and playing a bit of Dreamcast on the telly, sure the quality or the depth of the game might not be there but its just fun...thats all i want FUN FUN FUN.

Yeah, BUT consoles are designed for the lowest common denominator, ie the most idiotic player there is. Metal Gear Solid is not too bad, but hell it has nowhere near the depth of Deus Ex or the Thief Series. Basically consoles are patronising pieces of crap, whenever I touch one I instantly feel like I am being told how to think... If consoles are so great, then why did it take the PC game industry to come up with the current genres and to then cross genres? Then again, having consoles around is a good thing - it keeps the idiots away from PC games.

pc games and console games generally cater to different markets and genres. though occasionally there are ports from pc to console and vice versa, most of the time i dont think it really works out and it plays best on the platform it was originally designed for.

its rather simple you know. if you like the genres that consoles excel in (fighting games, console rpgs, sports (imho), arcade games etc) then play consoles. but if you like the genres that pc's excel in (fps, rts, pc rpgs, etc) then you play the pc. and if you like all those genres, play em both!

neither is "better" than the other, it just depends on what you want from a console or pc.

That may be so, but it concerns me when consoles start coming into PC territory, ie the X-BOX and other recent console developments such as internet access and PC like peripherals. I have this nightmare, where one day all games will be console... seriously starts to scare you. After all, the PC games industry has to keep up with the console market otherwise they start losing people, which means the PC games will become dull, bizarre and mindless dribble that comes from Japan.

I totally agree with lain. Consoles ARE better at certain things. My point, is, despite much arguing to the contrary by the fans, they most certainly NOT better at FPS games. I also agree that most console games are aimed a younger gamers - thats one of the reason I prefer thje PC for its more mature bias. But I still love FF3 and that cool tennis game on DC. And there are always emulators :)

I like playing my games on a 19" monitor in 1600x1200 (i have a 64 meg geforce 2), consoles only out put 640x480 coz that is all a tv can handle, any video card can be good at 640x480, that is a crap resolution and sif u would play on a pc with that resolution.

My argument is no matter how fasta console is a pc is always faster than it when it comes to graphics, although we will ahve to wait till we get widescreen games on the new digital tv, that will be interesting too see.

as for consoles vs pc, i think people who say consoles aren'tin depth have just notplayed teh right games, lain is righ twith his general classification of the games taht appear on both, but someof the rpg's on consoles are waaay in depth, especially in the plot and story line department, the japs make some wicked rpg's mainly commign from squaresoft.

i think so manypeople here have these loyalties with reguard to the games industry, loyalty to ID, or to Pc's over consoles, and i reall really think that is pathetic, your mindis small if you are like this it really is.

Lastly, squaresoft is notorious for flogging their horses until they no longer have any flesh. How many Final Fantasy games have they made? 10? 11? If that ain't a cheap, shameless and unoriginal series I don't know what is. Its too difficult for them to create anything new and exciting so they just keep on churning out sequels. If you don't believe me, well watch some of the Police Academy movies, you'll get what I mean - especially when you see the later movies.

just for your information hunter, every single final fantasy game is not a direct sequel of the one before it. they have whole new storylines and are situated in different worlds (though they have a few common aspects, each are unique). i have played most of them (1, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 out of 9) and can say that though they are similar in certain aspects they are unique in their own right. imho, anyway.

the japanese make many great console and arcade games. granted, you may not like them yourself but many regard software developement houses such as square as highly as some fps' lovers regard iD or epic or whoever.

i agree with capt0 in that with digital tv becoming the norm in the near future, the future of console gaming and how it affects pc gaming will be interesting to watch, but right now due to the low resolution of tvs and the nature of the tv which makes it hard to make out small text, some games will never be able to be ported to a console and be "better" enough to consider over a pc version.

it is one of the best FPS i have ever played it might not seem like that now, but at the time, it was superior to every pc FPS out there, except maybe Unreal if it was out then,

its gameplay was so sweet when it came out, ahh i remember the day when i bought that gem, slapped him into the 64 and away i went, perfect dark is also good but it was too much of the same like goldenye and at the time, there was too many other games like it

dont get me wrong i love pc FPS too, i have about 15 of them and i would have to say deus ex is probably the best i have played, quake 3 just is too much of the same

i play pc the most because of cs. but i luv games like goldeneye, zelda, tekken

they r great fun and more relaxing than pc games

i prefer pc games, but there are times, like now, when i'd like to just sit down on my bean bag in front of an 80cm tv (like the one in the lounge room) and just play a few games of something or other with a flatmate.

it's just easier than pc games :)

although i havn't played either n64 zelda's yet cause i dont have an n64....might get one just for those games... i bought a gameboy just to play zelda4 =]

i used to have an old NES, but that was more trouble than it was worth gettign games to work.

Might get back into playing consoles, but no way i would pay like $700 for a console
