Topic: What's the buggiest game you have ever played? A: Heavy Rain

I thought as an adventure game, Heavy Rain might be fun to play with the g/f who isn't much of a gamer.

She is coping with the controls fine, but the number of defects we have encountered is quickly killing the idea. We are only through the first few scenes, but already:

- In the first scene where you have to run around the yard with your kid on your shoulders, the R2 button did nothing, requiring a restart of the game.
- When you are leaving the hooker's apartment and that ex-client guy goes by you and goes up to the hooker's apartment, he instead just stood in the hallway doing nothing.
- After loading into the next scene (first scene with the FBI guy) the framerate mysteriously dropped to like 15FPS, requiring a restart.
- After restarting that scene, the sound would cut out intermittently.
- Then later in the scene, it just froze while wandering around for clues, at which point we gave up for the night.

I really want to like this game, but the bugs are just killing it for me.

So what's the buggiest game you have ever played, and did you persevere with it through to the end?

That's pretty terrible. I just finished the game and must say I had none of those problems. I had some issues with clipping, but nothing critical.

Do you have the PS3 connected to the internet? There was a patch on release day (200mb), maybe that would help??

I have the patch. Its pretty weird though, I have two saves going - one I'm playing on my own, and one we're playing together.

I have had a couple of crashes on my own save, but this second save is just having problem after problem. Very strange.

I've never finished Duke 3d or Half-Life because both games crash at a particular point.

Anything from Bohemia interactive really. But i keep buying them/playing them because i love their games and most of the major bugs do get fixed eventually.

Also, STALKER. That game was a f***ing joke.

Indeed, the first two Ess Tee Ay Ell Kay Ee Arr games were pretty buggy. The most recent one is pretty good though and much better gameplay wise as well IMO.

TES: Daggerfall back in the day was a shocker, and true to it's heritage at the start of TES: Oblivion I once had Uriel Septim a.k.a. Uriel Picard fall through the a clipping bug in the floor right before he was about to give me the main quest item which prevented the gameplay script that lets you out of the dungeon from triggering so that kind of f***ed the whole game up right there.
Thankfully I'd already been through the start of the game before so I realised that things were fubar and restarted. If I hadn't I'd probably have been sitting around in the dungeon for a long while thinking about how s*** the game was and when something was going to happen.

Yeah not to mention getting stuck facing a different direction, plus some of the characters flying around the room during in-game cutscenes :)

5 minute load times. AI running away, crouching and becoming non-responsive. One of the worst games I have played.

I am playing Fallout 3 pretty heavily at the moment and the console has got me out of quite a few game breaking jams.

Hey nathan,

sounds like an issue with your PS3 console or perhaps the disc.

I've played through the entire game without any of the issues you've listed & i know quite a few other people who have also.

You haven't read any reviews of the game? I have seen these issues noted numerous times.

I am happy to report though, we've since been able to play through the rest of the game without noticing any defects.

Hey Nathan,

I decided not to read any reviews of the game as i was really looking forward to it & had already decided to purchase so i didnt want to find any spoilers.

After i finished playing it i didnt either, why would you read a review of a game you're done with?

So no i was just going off my experience and some friends.

Somtimes it's nice to read what other people have to say about the game.

Yeah, I had one crash during a loading screen, and I freaked out thinking I was about to suffer that dreaded savegame corruption bug, but after I switched off the PS3 and switched it back on everything was fine and haven't had any problems since.

Söldner: Secret Wars

This game had so much potential.

Potential that was sadly never realised...

Ultima IX was easily the buggiest game ever (for an a+ developer). Half of the time you couldn't even finish it because of a bug that stopped a main quest from being triggered. It wasn't until the 3rd or so patch that the game was essentially completable, and even then 1/2 the dialog didn't work until a community patch. And it was released mainly for glide, no other hardware rendering at launch, at a time when 3DFX were starting to fall apart.

simul sparked my memory on another beauty - Sacred, the first one. The second one was a bit better but the first one had all the bugs that simul described for Ultima IX.

farcry2/crysis. I'd end up underneath the map and running around down there in crysis and I can't remember which game it was but the cars would be driving along with no wheels, I *think* it was farcry 2 but it might have been crysis. I do know it was one of those 2 games. Also guns/people would be sticking out of the walls all over the place.
