I want to get myself a bigger hard drive as the one that I have is almost full.I was think that I should get one thats about 30Gb do you guy's know what a good price for that would be? Plus if you know of any good makes I'd like to hear what you think they are.I was also wondering that if I get a new hard drive do I just get it added on to the one I already have(which is 12.7Gb) Any help/advice would be appreciated |

yes you can have multiple drives inthe one computer you just get a second hard drive icon in the "my computer" window. hard drives are not expensive seagate is a good brand, and most places sell them i think, i always just look at concorde, i know they have good prices, not necessarily the cheapest but they are never over priced, so look their first and then go see if there is anything cheaper. places like sunlit are cheaper but they never have anythgin instock and so you gotta wait ages, and they usually lose your order or dont bothe to ring you back, so i always go to concorde cause i know i get propper service and fast service http://users.bigpond.net.au/hwinwood/1.jpg |

you could just go for two 15gig hd's and a pci raid card. that'd be much quicker than a single 30gb drive. thats assuming you have enough spare hd bays of course |

Yeah I have a 14.4gig IBM drive that came with my Gateway P2 400 2 years ago and it is still goin fine. Its a little noisey and not the fastest, but it has had a tough life (being dragged to lans in the back of taxis etc) its been jolted around in the back of cars, as in sliding from one side to the other around corners and only has 4k of bad sectors. I am extremely happy with it and I would recommend IBM to anyone definitely. |

I have a Seagate 13 gig 7200rpm and i have had that for about 18 months now and have never had a problem with it, i also have a 10 gig Western Digital and have had nightmares with it, although it has never been back on waranty and also has no bad sectors but ocassionally it doesn't powerup. Other than that they have both been good to me and still r chugging along (touch wood) |

I had a Western Digital 4 gig in my P2 233 I had 3 years ago. It was the biggest piece of s*** drive I have ever seen. I had to get it fully replaced 2 times cos it was totally f***ed and there was no reason for it, it just died. I understand they have improved since then though. |

Personally I think you can get duds in all the brands. I think maybe IBM are the best bet as far as overal quality, but the others are cheaper and chances are if you treat them normally they will work great. |

Don't be shy guy's Keep the info coming. I have just about run outa space on my hdd and as I see it I have 2 choices 1)Get a bigger hdd so I can just keep going or 2)by a burner so I can put all the movies and Mp3's I have onto disc to free up abit of space. I need to reformat my hdd anyway but what way would you guy's go? If you know of any good burners let me know. Thanx |

Man I would get the harddrive - its a pain in the ass using CD's all the time, believe me. But if you want a burner prety much all of them are ok as far as I understand these days. Best would prolly be Yamaha. If you have a decent system then there is no need for SCSI. |

I dunno whether you need a new HDD that badly, you seem to have a good setup man. As for burners, I was in HN today and the majority are $300. There was one by TDK which was $800, and had some VERY outlandish claims on the box: - No write errors - No data underrun errors - can rip a track off a CD in 8 seconds They were just the ones I read! Can anyone confirm whether or not this is a load of BS? |

Nah I have no worries with my pc booting up,the biggest problems I have at the moment are 1)when I leave a CS server after playing I get an error that changes my desk top size from 800X600 to the next smaller one but this only happens after playing CS not HL or TFC.Problem 2)Everytime I try and send an ICQ message I get disconnected from optus I gave optus a call and they reckon I need to reformat my hdd(which by the way I have know idea how to do) I have had my pc for just over a year now and haven't reformated it yet I get strange little errors all the time.I only want a burner so I can back up all my stuff then reformat my hdd then put all my stuff back on my pc. However at the rate that I'm filling my current hdd I will need a bigger on to add to it soon. What do yas think? |
