I dont want to ring up Indians, so i thought id ask QGL.

I have an Iphone on a $49 cap, I'm going to Vietnam to Laos then Thailand in a week.
If i use my phone over there, it says itll cost $1 per 30 seconds.
Does this come under the cap ?

cheers

Perhaps the Phone Carrier might help?

But I'd say your boned - why not read the terms and conditions of your cap plan?

the $300 for $50 thing is complete bulls***
all they're doing is saying its worth "$300 but you only pay $50"
meaning what it's actually worth is really $50

an obvious scam that the entire planet seems to have fallen for

Can confirm International roaming is not on your plan however you can be in oz and call international up to $120 which will be included on your cap

You'll have internet cafes everywhere also iPhone is just another item to get stolen, lost, broken, etc, each to their own though.

Data roaming charges are calculated differently to call roaming charges just FYI.

Don't use your phone for data while overseas. Your bill will be sky-high, I guarantee it.

They really need to fix that s*** up too, force them to do a 'comparison value' the way that the banks have to advise comparison rates.

yeah i realise the call rates are double to triple the cost of the other carriers, but i get annoyed with having to recharge all the time, and i never go over the cap.

Yeah it realy should be 300 credits for $49 dollars, cause the $ value on the included calls doesnt realy mean anything, its just that you get 300 of them.

lol imitation - I'm guessing that was a joke.

With regard to data roaming, Optus charge ~$20 per meg. I doubt 3 would be very different.

agreed. in the US plans are advertised with talk-time minutes, way better.

A) No, it does not cover international roaming
B) Remember, when someone rings you, you get charged at a stupid rate as well. So people ringing you = money

hilarious story, went on a tour in peru and this young bloke went clubbing with me, he got some cocaine from some dodgy guy in the club and part of the price included being hooked up with a hottie and slamming her on the beach

He ditches her and feels like s*** so he calls his gf in australia to apologise etc etc. An hour later bye bye $1k

Whatever you do disable data on your phone, its crazy expensive, and the iPhone will sometimes use data, so make sure u physically disable it in the settings if your taking that phone. I know people who have come back to 800$ bills cause they forgot to turn data off on their phone.

"Please be advised that using your modem or data connection overseas can be very expensive! Data charges can exceed $20 per MB in some areas. Be sure to check the data rate in your destination country before considering using your modem overseas."

Yeah, I think if I ever went overseas I'd get a prepaid phone while I was over there, the cheapest pos phone I could find.

This brings me to a question, in one of the bourne movies he wanders up to a stand and just buys a phone, then chucks it in some guys pocket & uses it to talk to him, is that even possible or do you need to activate the phone via the internet like I had to with my current prepaid phone? Are there pre-activated single use phones that you buy & then just chuck out once the credit has expired or something?

Nah I wouldn't bother with this - I went to Brazil and Argentina, and just turned off the data roaming option in the iPhone settings, and it worked fine. I also turned off 3G.
