Want to get into it as an alternative to listening to the radio some days (~2h a day) I have an iPod Touch, would use iTunes as the approach. What's good? |

If you're a software developer these are pretty good. If you're not then download them anyway, they could help with insomnia.
.NET Rocks! Hanselminutes Polymorphic DNR and Hanselman are on iTunes I'm pretty sure, dunno about the other one. |

Nah, not music. Something educational. Some stock trading ones would be good - sometimes I download the stuff off the ASX website and listen to that. Keep em coming, loving the mix so far. Will definitely get on board a couple of dev ones. |

I used to grab the BBC World Service documentaries, they were always pretty interesting. I mostly get comedy stuff now to distract me while I am exercising.
Hamish & Andy Roy & HG You Look Nice Today - A Journal of Emotional Hygiene - my personal fave Matt Berry Comedy Death Ray Radio The Bugle - Audio Newspaper for a Visual World |

Skeptics' Guide to the Universe. Takes a bit of getting used to, but when you work out which voice belongs to which person, it's fkn hilarious and very educational.

Cool. I listened to a couple of Naked Scientist ones yesty, that's a good one to have. They don't dwell on topics for too long, and the discussion is sufficiently technical to be interesting. I much prefer it over Dr Karl, tbh. That show grinds me a little bit. He has holes in knowledge, particularly fluid dynamics and engineering (which is why it annoys me) - Naked Scientist seem to do better to get the right people on to explain it with a deeper understanding. |

love podcasts atm......need a break from constant music, and jjj summer radio sux. Exactly why I'm doing it. I love triple j, and if you don't listen to the radio you don't learn new music - but I need the occasional break. Listened to my first "Sceptics' Guide to the Universe" this morning on the way to work, not bad. Waffled on a bit (I think podcast was maybe 1h30m) but the topics were quite good. Sort of similar to The Naked Scientists. Their cynical stance and out-and-out criticism of stuff (e.g., free energy machine) was refreshing. Going to listen to one of Dazhel's programming ones on the way home. Not programming .NET lately though, and never have done ASP.NET at all, so will avoid that stuff. Java mostly lately. Queue the haters... |

dr karl has massive holes in lots of things he says, but for some reason everyone loves him Yeah, he's a trained medical professional, and he's good at those questions. I wish they'd get some better guests in - some more technical ones. They get the same old faces - the New Inventors guys, Tim Flannery, etc. News-flash: there are more than 3x scientists in the world worth interviewing. Get some random, credible UNSW or Uni Melb peeps on. Yeah, it won't be as polished as your TV-presenter type scientists (like that annoying CSIRO director guy with the eyebrow ring who's too cool for school), but the content would be actually worth listening to. http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/3229/jamesmoodyimage.jpg Dr James Moody |
