Grog's thread reminded me that I should probably make the customary new baby thread now that I finally have had a chance to sit down and take a breath :D

So wifey started getting what at the time was either "slight contractions or nothing" about midday on friday and they gradually increased to somewhat decent (2 in 10mins) at about 5:30pm - given that this is number 2 in the roster we opted to stick around home and just come up on when she was closer to 3 in 10 at the advise of the chicks in birth suite.

So at about 9:30 that night we mosey onto the hospital - with the betrothed handling the contractions like a champ. Turns out she is like 4cm dilated and things are going swimmingly! At about midnight they paged the anesthesiologist/drug guy for the epidural and broke her waters.

This as it would turn out is where things got a lil pear shaped. They were expecting that breaking her water would increase the contractions in frequency and strength, what they weren't expecting was that she'd go fully sick and go from 6 - 10 cm in the hour. So by the time the dude got there to jab a needle in her back she was already well into it. Mad props to the dude for trying - he looked more like a bomb defuser than a doctor - trying to jab a needle beside someones spine can't be too much fun when you've only got something like a 2 minute window.

So no epidural - time to go stag. Spend the next couple of hours not decending and by 3:30am both wife and I are starting to get pretty worried. For those that have heard my epic oliver tale (back to back/emergency c-sect) - things seem to be going down the same path. At this point I can see the top of his head and we're sooo on the home stretch but wifey is starting to really run out of gusto. So in the end they pop a lil vacum on his head and out he pops at 3:55am with a pretty wonky looking head.

I give you Benjamin Thomas Ellis born Saturday 12th Dec @ 3:55am weighing in at 4.29kgs/roughly 9.5 pounds 4cm taller than his older brother was at 55cm.

well done mate, and consider yourself in the upper half of society by giving the kid a go in life by giving him a real name.

Grats.

Sif Ryu isn't a real name. He'd beat up Ben

We deliberated long and hard about the name. We had edward on the cards long ago but of course twilight f***ed that up.

Yes thats right - I chose my sons name based on a epic fail b grade flick. Had nothing to do with it once being a nice strong noble name before some f***** in a tree used it.

Poor jadz had his heart set on eli :D

Yeah thats right fizzer. Edward is an awesome name (8 generations strong in my family either as a first or second name depending on the order of the day) but f*****s in trees f*** things up for everyone.

Reminds me of my brother had Axle Foley as his ring tone since forever until crazy frog came and took a hairy dump over it and every time his phone rang people would say HAY MAN CRAZY FROG so that was the end of that one.

Congrats dude!

But seriously, f*** Twilight.

We've wanted an Isabella nicknamed Bella for seven years now, since our oldest was conceived. I've liked it since some ethnic peeps I worked with in Pizza Hut way back in 1995 called beautiful people Bella.

Now we're on our last run (no more than 3 kids for sanity) and I feel like I can't use the f***ing name. Rage.

Bella literaly translates to "Beautiful" in italian
regardless of some movie or whatever, I would still name my kids what I want to name them

I remember when I was about 18 I thought to myself if I ever had a son I'd call him Jack, and I did
Then when my mrs was pregnant we had to come up with girl names just in case, so we decided on Lily

our first daughter will still be Lily, even if some stupid movie has a main character called Lily
Also, I would name my second daughter Isabella
Second son my mrs wants to call Hunter

keep in mind these kids will all share the last name "Johnson", ie Jack Johnson, Hunter Johnson etc
this day in age, too many people care about what other people think
f*** 'em I say

My instinct is to agree teq!

But I don't want the poor kid to have to put up with being associated with a f***** in a tree movie.

I'm so conflicted :(
