thanks for having a look in guys.

ok, here's the story, my housemates (stupidly) got optus cable, which supplies a netgear cable modem/router - CG814WG.

currently, i have my computer and xbox wirelessly linked to the router downstairs in my half of the house. the catch is, that it's a bit flaky occasionally, and media streaming while it works, is better with a wired cable. the other thing is, i want to get a blu-ray player and get it hooked up to the network too (youtube via player).

i have a spare netgear ADSL wireless modem router, DG834G. now i'm wondering, is it possible to link up these 2 wireless routers so i can just ethernet everything downstairs? i saw something like "peer to peer" and repeating options in the spare router.

the idea is to do it something like this

To do wireless bridging you need both to support it and hopefully to the same spec/standards. :/

You've got 3 options,

1) Check the web interfaces of the devices to see if both support wireless bridging (Wds). You may need to do some googling or even update firmware to get this to work.

2) Set up the 2nd router as a wireless client and see if it has any options to either bridge the wireless and LAN connections, or use the wireless link as the wan connection or has some sort of nat/ passthrough options available or something along those lines. Might need to check web interface and or google for specifics on your model.

3) Buy a long cat5/6 cable :p

There's a lot of information on whirlpool about the devices, but don't always trust the knowledgebase or hardware listings as they can be wrong or out of date. I'd link you specifics but copying and pasting while on an iPhone on a bus is a cnt.
