Anyone here got a set of these and can comment on their performance? I searched a few of the older speaker recommendation threads and saw whoop mention he may get it.

It's for my 2nd lounge room for movies and games (guitar hero mainly)

I've read a few reviews and the main complaint seems to be that their midrange is quite poor, otherwise they crank.

Yep I've got the Z-2300s. Bought them after my Z4s started giving problems. Noise from the sub. These work great. Lots of bass. Will annoy the neighbours. Need to turn it up fairly loud to get some good sound from your wee speakers but no problems with them so far (had them for about 5 months).

Had them for at least 5 years if I recall, and they are okay. Very reliable (for me), sound isn't outstanding but they're pretty well priced so you get what you pay for.

Can you change the volume of the sub itself seperate from the speakers?

On the wired remote there is a knob for master volume and a separate one for bass balance, as well as an On/Off switch.

So no, not volume of the sub per se, just the amount of bass in proportion to the overall volume.

I had some of the cheaper logitech speakers a while back, the sub was a noisy/droney POS, the normal speakers sounded very thin. I ended up getting the 5500's and am super happy with them. Sif you can't fit 5 speakers in a room you can fit 3, the rears aren't exactly large.

In relation to 2.1 speakers, I wish they still sold these..

They were the best IMO.
Shame they dont make them anymore, or update them.

I did get them and they f***en hammer (for their size/price). I've actually got a set here not doing anything, they still work I just shoved them under a table when I upgraded to 5.1's. Where do you live?

Pretty much. Fantastic sound for the price. Good for parties, good for space-limited desks (if you can tuck the sub away somewhere). I seriously love this for movies and trance!

For other purposes my dedicated amplifier + proper 1 metre tall speakers produce a much cleaner sound - but hey I paid a lot more money for that.

Buy some z-5500's then just put the the rear L and rear R next to the front L/R if you have no room. I know this is not what you want/need, I just love my z-5500's.. I've heard people talk them down but they never fail. I even had them going at full volume for the top 20 of the triple J top 100 recently and f*** me not a single bit of distortion.. might be the $300 soundcard I bought with them but either way for $700 I think I got my moneys worth.

^^ I've just got my rear speakers on the floor next to the sub when they're not in use & disable them in windows so it doesn't try to output any sound to them.

I bought a set of these about 12 months ago, and promptly returned them. Ended up just using an amp and regular speakers.

As to "why not 5.1", for me it was because I wanted to put the money into two good quality speakers for playing music on my PC.

We've had a set of Logitech Z-640's (which are 5.1) for ages, which I still rate quite highly but for me the Z-5500's were no good at all.
