I just got some stuff off the bigpond.com server and it's counted towards my usage. What the f***? Has anyone else come across this? Are bigpond.com downloads counting towards our usage now or what?

If you're talking about files.bigpond.com and downloading from there definitely counted toward your metered usage, log a support call with them.

I'm testing now from my bp cable on a 4gb iso from bigpond files, will check my usage meter later and see what happens

files.bigpond.com ara. I got the kubuntu dvd iso. I sent them an email before I posted this thread Jim.

edit: oh and it definitely counted towards it jim. I was on 13% and after I downloaded that one file I'm now on 51%. I just started a new month too so if they cap me I'm going to be quite the cranky. I just wish I could get DSL so I could be rid of telstra.

are you using a download manager that "helpfully" searches for other mirrors when you try to download a file? I can't remember which one of them did that.

I've had something like that happen before. You can ring up tech support and get bounced from department to department until the foreigner understands what your problem is. When i tried, they told me some BS about a "limit" of the amount of credit they can give out, i think it was around 3GB... or maybe less. But if you've got the time, you can definitely get something done about it.

Jim: Which file did you try? If you or anyone else is bored, mind getting a few meg of this: http://files.bigpond.com/library/index.php?go=details&id=43468 and see if it registers?

So what, you can only download 3 gig of free files a month before it starts counting towards your downloads? If so that's f***ed.

Sorry, i didn't explain myself properly. What I meant is that if something f***s up and unmetered data ends up counting as metered data, there is some limit on the amount of data the CS reps can credit your account to fix it.

I would say the amount of data they'll refund you is in direct proportion to the amount of a pain in the ass you're prepared to be about it :)

yep no probs tryin it now

this is the one I tried:
http://files.bigpond.com/library/index.php?go=download&id=35352

the way it works though is by server ip, and all the file downloads come from servers with ip's in the unmetered ranges

I downloaded 3gb of that ISO and nothing showed up on my meter, though I'm not sure how long it takes

orite, I didn't realise the website showed that - cool! I was just using the firefox plugin which just lists usage as a flat number. Yep, it clearly shows on mine as unmetered usage.

other thing to check is that you're not using a proxy server. sometimes funny applications can take over your proxy settings and mess with your s***

or you have a vpn opened, and your traffic is being directed via a third party.
