Well it took them 4 years to pull it off but the CSIRO have now settled all their wifi Patent disputes with the major PC/Software manufacturers of the world.
Slashdot article I guess they will now persue those who weren't involved in the case and sue them for the rest of the royalties. Wonder if the goverment will let them keep the money? I reckon we'll see the CSIRO government funding nearly disappear, nice to have a government branch self sufficient. |

That's good news. Hopefully this will fund a lot of "borderline" research proposals that will actually come up trumps. From what I gather, there are a fair few expert researchers with a lot of wild ideas that would probably work if someone would risk some money to fund them.

I reckon we'll see the CSIRO government funding nearly disappear, nice to have a government branch self sufficient. Around half of the CSIRO's budget comes from the Federal Government. The rest comes from participation with business, local and state governments and investments/patents. From what I gather, there are a fair few expert researchers with a lot of wild ideas that would probably work if someone would risk some money to fund them. Australian research is critically underfunded and neglected. You wouldn't believe the number of inventions that Australians make but can't get funded in AU so they go to the US or Europe :( You can thank the former government for that. |

CSIRO developed a lot of the tech that makes up the IEEE 802.11 wireless networking standard.......they also had the brains to patent it. Now everyone making PCs and software using the IEEE 802.11 wireless standards owes them royalties, its bloody brilliant if you ask me. Its a modern equivelent to owning the patent on telephones.

They also invented the Super/Ultra Battery . Its a Lead Acid Electric Battery with a SuperCapacitor built in.
Much cheaper than Lithium Ion. I read about it about about a few yrs ago. Looks like someone bought it and sat on it. |
