Just wondering if anyone is using Barcode fonts at work at the moment i am trialling Code39 font... The issue i am having is when type *Test* into excel then print the page and the scanner scans the barcode i am getting T+E+S+T like so which i think is totally weird?

Sure it's Code39 and not Code39ext?
Edit: I just checked in Inkscape and Code39ext does the +t+e+x+t thing, and Code39 doesn't. last edited by Mantorok at 15:15:02 21/Apr/09 |

It doesn't? Try Inkscape. Just go to the Effects Menu, Render > Barcode... Then select Code39 from the dropdown box, input the barcode data and click Apply.

Tried this font? Don't bother with the installer, just extract the ttf file.

I remember in High school when in the library for class, I would take the bar codes off books and place them in peoples pencil cases\bags so when they left the library, the alarm would go off.
It was great fun until I accidentaly did it to the teachers pencil case. |

I figured out the problem, Code39 doesn't handle :, Code39ext does. Code39ext supports more characters than Code39 by using two characters to represent one. /Z is :, and lowercase letters like a b c are +A +B +C.

pretty much all modern scanners support code 128.
but yeah, i dont trust barcode fonts, they always seem to produce poor quality barcodes. |
