I heard it was terrible. Then again, I could only force myself to watch up to the season 3 final, and never bothered with season 4, so I may be biased... |

Yeah, it's about humanity creating the first Cylons. I think it follows the Adama family or something.

Was pretty awesome, I would have liked a bit more of an actual explanation about all the loopy s*** they'd been doing with Starbuck lately, but oh well, I guess I'll have to settle for this mysterious god's plan line.

Two pig thumbs up here - bloody awesome. With the finale S4 makes up for S3 imo, and is a nice save for the franchise.
I'd like to see a new series covering the rebirth of AI and the beginning of the cycle again - maybe the new 'twelve colonies' as a coalition of twelve Earth nations to get behind space exploration in a big way? - but I reckon its probably done with now. |

Yeah, as far as I can tell, after she died, she was some sort of angel or something sent back to lead humanity to Earth. It's a bit of a strange direction, I never expected them to take the whole religious thing so literally, but it was an interesting twist nonetheless. Also, can the OP fix the thread title? It's Battlestar, not Battle Star. |

Yeah, I'm glad Tory died, I always disliked her.
Also, the scene where Kara is entering the FTL jump coordinates into the computer was done so damn well. I got goosebumps watching that part, because of the music, the shots, everything. |

Just a little technical quip. A few episodes back when boomer stole Hera; she jumped next to galactica and ripped the ship a little bit. But this time around when galactica was jumping out from the suicide mission nothing happened :(

Yeah, but it was the aftershock of the FTL jump that boomer did that ripped up galactica. When galactica jumped away from the colony, it would have been the colony that got ripped up by the aftershocks, but since it was already nuked and exploding and f***ed up anyway, it probably didn't matter much.
Also, assault raptors jumping straight out of the launch bay FTW. |

Yeah, first half of season 4 was pretty slow and boring, but from about episode 9 or so onwards, it was awesome. I'd watch it from at least halfway through the season, cos if you just watch the last ep, theres gonna be a lot of things which make no sense.

Nah I think the whole series lost it's tension when they started personalizing the cyclons side of the story, there's been no real constant threat to them since they blew up the resurrection ship, I missed the days for the first 2 season where there was a constant threat of the cyclons after them.
The whole reasoning for the final battle was retarded, there was no reason to go after the girl, just because we were told she's "special". In general I've found this last season to be the most unbelievable, characters doing things completely out of character with no rational thought behind their actions. |

Also humanising the cylons was a necessary part of the story imo. Otherwise you are left with a rigid, stereotypical 'baddy' enemy that is relly unfulfilling. I found the exploration of Cavell's (sp?) motivations and his angst at Ellen actually kinda cool. last edited by Hogfather at 16:41:31 23/Mar/09 |

Example?
Adama going after the girl for starters, I'd have to go back and rewatch the entire season to list more but I remember numerous times thinking characters were acting irrationally. Actually I didn't mind the bit with caville explaining his motivations, but at no stage during the finale were the survivors under threat from them until the BSG attack them. I didn't buy the need to go after the girl, having taken out the resurrection ship has stopped the constant cylon pursuit and since then it's lacked the consistent oppressive atmosphere it once had. The fact that the build up to the final battle was only established in the previous episode was just f***ing lazy. They've had all season to set up a big final confrontation and they introduce it at the end of the episode before? The attack on the resurrection ship had more build up than that, s*** the attack on the fuel refinery in season one had more than that even. Yeah I'd rather that to a prequel show. It'd be hard to do though since it is far from a new concept (Terminator/Matrix) but I'd love to see something like that start from scratch instead of where the robots are already built and with a strong desire to kill all humans. |

Yeah when I saw them ram into the colony ship I expected them to jump away and f*** up the colony in the process, only for literally nothing to happen. Oh and don't get me started on the dead chick in the viper blowing up the colony with her dead hand. |

Adama didn't want BSG to get stripped down and die without some action so that's 1 reason for going after the girl. The other, from my point of view, is that the whole show is about humanity and not only the struggle for it to survive but also to stay 'human' at the same time....some could stay that letting a girl, a child, get kidnapped without even trying to rescue her would take that last piece of 'humanity' you have and rip it out of you.

as for why'd they go after the girl, well, aside from the arguments that they all presented, there's also the other side. If they unlock how to continue the cylon race with what they discover from that girl, then the cylons will continue to be a threat if they can reproduce again. Thus by stealing her back, they
1. get to do the moral right thing 2. cover their ass if she really is special/necessary 3. doesn't have to strip down his baby, galactica 4. prevent cylon reproduction |

Adama going after the girl for starters, I'd have to go back and rewatch the entire season to list more but I remember numerous times thinking characters were acting irrationally. Adama got the s***s and pulled a balls to the wall suicide move - how is this out of character? Remember on New Caprica when they jumped in at like 10,000 feet? Granted it was for only one person but I think that it was (at least for the old guy) symbolic of a desire to take it to them one more time rather than limp away. There's a certain amount of "irrational behaviour" built into the entire situation. After that long on the run in space you're bound to go a bit nuts, which is half the story of the new series. Its not the sort of thing you would calmly consider doing from your armchair, but that's sort of the point. last edited by Hogfather at 21:43:48 23/Mar/09 |

But yeah, it would have been interesting to see him. In the beginning they planned on having 12 normal cylons, but part of the way through they came up with the idea of 5 of those being radically different. The problem being that one of the cylons was already 'number 8'. There's been a number of retcons in the series because changing situations have warranted it. Some include: changing amount of prisoners from 500 to 1500, changing amount of ships in the fleet from 40ish to 70ish, changing designs of Raiders, Basestars and MkVII Vipers and others. |

I'd like to see a new series covering the rebirth of AI and the beginning of the cycle again You're welcome. I just watched the season finale, and I think the very last scene made the whole series. Season 4 did get pretty stale half way, but that last scene in the final episode made it all worth it. As for going back for the girl, I think it made perfect sense. One of the strongest, longest-running themes of the series was the fact that survival was not an inherent right, but something that must be earned. Humans must deserve to survive, we shouldn't just take it as given. The rescue was the morally correct thing to do for Adama and his crew, and to follow through on it was what made them worthy of survival. |

middle to late age key character and actors... less pretty young hip cool people.
like all good shows lately... boston legal et al problem is it takes some getting used to before you realize it's better. |

CT: I'd rather see a sequel rather than a prequel.

As others have said i got really side tracked in season 3 with other decent shows at the time, and never came back.
Might be a good chance to revisit from Season 1 All the way through to end. |

I've only seen the first few episodes of Seas 4, that have been released on DVD. I'm waiting for the 2nd set (is it out yet?). But I must say it was a little disappointing. Most Sci Fi fans, will have watched both Galatica and the Stargate series, in my veiw Galatica was great visually, but took it self far too seriously. Stargate SG1 and Atlantis are far more entertaining, what a waste to end them after a combined 15 seasons. Crikey, Dr Who has been running for over forty years and who watches that? But BattleStar, was generally a good show, if a bit confusing at times. But my point is, wouldn't have been great if when Galatica reached Earth, they were confonted by SG1 onboard Daedulus. i would have loved to have seen Kara go head to head with Teal'c. |
