So I went to a wedding reception at this place last night, the first time it's been open, and all I can say is OH MY GOD. This place is amazing... and it's gonna take the Brisbane bar scene by storm. I've been to some pretty cool bars around the world, and this blows them all out of the water.

I've included some photos but they don't really capture just how incredible this place is.

And as an aside I definitely would support an over-25's policy at Cloudland... Would be great to have a cool bar without all the young Valley F-wits ruining it.

One of the bar staff told us last night that the VIP opening is this Thursday night and it opens to the public on Friday...

vip is thursday 26th, opening is friday 27th AFAIK

Looks cool... but if it's like any other club in the valley, it'll be too dark, loud and expensive to give a s*** how "nice" it is. I would definitely consider a visit if they had the >25 age thing though... god I'm getting old.

Went there on Sat night, pretty good. No f***heads, not over packed, easy going, good jazz music + live instruments. It's a little upper class but good place overall. Cloudland looks like a scene out of Jumanji but I'll check it out.

Yeah I went to Zuri after the wedding... I was pretty hammered by that stage but from what I remember it was pretty good? Nice to have a couple of new options in the Valley, it was all getting a bit same same.

Also Casa, need a date for the opening? ;)

Both of my bosses got an invite and one of them can't go so I'm going as him! The other one probably can't go so will more than likely take a client over one of you fagots!

ps: I don't do anything, we were just promised our christmas party there last year and they didn't deliver. I also have a stack of about 50x $35 drinks vouchers for the place for them apologising for f***ing us around. $35 for a drink though lawls

Unexpectantly went to this place last night, it really blows your mind. Apart from the lavishness, it was a really good atmosphere too. No d*******s, no violence, no messy drunks/other. No smoke anywhere either except in the foul smoking pit out the back.

Just the right amount of light in all the right places - it's not dark and dingy at all. Just the right sound setup too - you can still hear each other talk but the music still seems loud - must be a great sound system.

The only thing that could have been better was having a few more bar staff on.

I dropped into another valley bar on the way home and it felt like the biggest dive ever. Dark, dingy, s*** blary too loud sound system, stank and smokey.

Actually I just did a little reading on the original Cloudland and how the corrupt as f*** National party had it torn down illegaly back in 1982. Once I started to read the article I actually remembered it happening as I had just moved to QLD that same year.

^^ and then you do a little more reading and you realise that despite the romantic attachment people had to it during the 40's and 50's, by the time it got to the 70's it was little more than a rickety firetrap.

yeah exo I did actually and it appears many people believed the state of the place was grossly exagerated as a weak effort to justify bulldozing it. Of course it wouldn't be so bad if the land it sat on had something really worth while put on it for the community but it was just a grab for cash by the state government.

Been reading a book by Stuart Buchanan called Taxi: Story of a Brisbane Cabbie (surprise surprise) and he talks about the corruptness of Joh's govt. Very good read, tells of how so many brothels and casinos simply dissapeared overnight...

There is interesting website on the orginal cloudland ballroom on www.cloudland .com.au .It even has the front page of the Courier mail the day after the ballroom was torn down

well went in on saturday night around 2 ish no line up it was pretty empty... was pretty sweet.. but was pretty drunk so dont really remember too much

Pretty sure it isn't Joanna, I don't think they can legally discriminate by age other than 18+.

They can do it smartly though. All they have to do is not advertise that it is 25+ and then get the guys on the door to refuse anyone under the age of 25 and just not give a reason for it.

Well I'm 22 and got through with no problems, so did a bunch of people I know over the weekend. There is no age restriction.
