To quote!
Eight of Australia's biggest sporting heroes go head-to-head in Rexona Australia's Greatest Athlete They basically go through challenges like Cricket hitting, driving in Golf, Chipping in Golf, 40 metre beach sprint, mini Ironman challenge, basketball etc Greatest Athelete site Who's in it? Billy Slater - Rugby League Andrew Symonds - Cricket Ky Hurst - Ironman Lote Tuqiri - Rugby Union Jamie Whincup - V8 Supercars Joel Griffths - Soccer Steve Hooker - Atheletics Brett Deledio - AFL Details are on the website for when the next show is on including videos of previous episodes (most shows need to do this!) Its been pretty interesting and fun I think, some fun moments include Joel Griffths effort in the golf driving challenge (worth watching i think!) |

pole volter != all round athlete |

Hmm.. interesting that golf is included. It's definitely more about individual skill, technique and practice than your athleticism.
What i mean is if you were looking at say the subset of soccer players... you would expect to see the majority of players have similar skill levels in things like basketball, swimming, running, etc. With golf i think the results would be really random and erratic since it basically would come down to how much golf the individual has played. |

I have enjoyed the show so far and primarily because all the guys seem to be just having fun with it and not taking it to seriously. I'd have to say Slatter is a pretty unbackable favourite to win and one of those kinds of guys that can pretty much turn his hand to anything, just an all round good sportsman.
Jamie Whincup has been a suprise packet and fun to watch. I have also really enjoyed seeing the friendly banter between the guys like when whats his name tossed a banana at Roy while he was in the nets for the cricket challenge. |

nah, hes not, but he did suprisingly well
he whipped a heap of them in the ironman challenge (only beaten by ky hurst and billy slater) i think he won the golf challenge also: and hooker is fast and strong and doing consistantly well; slater is miles in front, hooker is the only one that will catch him although hes not much of a driver, the weekend just past they did the v8 buggies challenge, that was pretty awesome and the 40m beach sprint, which slater won by a tiny amount (over hooker) |

ky hurst is miles behind:
hes been useless at everything except for ironman (which won on the swimming leg) and he got second in the v8 buggy |

symonds is also miles behind;
but he did win the cricket challenge with 6 x 6s (it didnt look too hard to do) symonds = slow runner and can barely swim wasnt much of a driver either; |

No cycling, no skiing, no ice-hockey, no basketball, no discus, no archery, no rings.
Games seem to mostly consist of those where large burly men can grab each other and wrestle each other to the ground. Edit: Sorry, I lie - basketball is in there. last edited by Raven at 13:30:58 25/Feb/09 |

what is the point of having an greatest australian athlete competition in sports that only 0.01% of australians do like archery?
well f*** it while we are at it, why aren't they doing an american football challenge, ice skating and bobsled? last edited by paveway at 15:11:31 02/Mar/09 |

I agree with Paveway.

I agree with Paveway. Slater is way out in front atm. I'll be surprised if anybody catches him. Well, you called it - Billy won by an absolute mile. Whincup came second though, impressed the hell out of me... didn't expect him to keep it up the whole way through. Show gave an addy for s2 news and stuff... hopefully they let us have some input as to who is in and what they do - http://www.facebook.com/rexonamen I want shotput. |

I hope Billy can make it back next year to defend his title. Some of the others can say at home, like Joel Griffiths, he can definitely stay at home.

You can watch full episode on the official website which really helps if you missed an episode.
They also reply on Nine HD on Wednesday nights at 10:30pm. Good series I really enjoyed it, symonds and his s*** stirring is hella funny no wonder he gets into so much trouble. |

Go whincupp coming second, shows that he obviously is someone who is obviously realy competetive, and that It must be damm hard driving a v8 supercar, especialy on the big races. I think most people wouldnt be able to handle doing an endurance race, like the clipsal 500 over the weakend.
