what insurance do you guys use? any horror stories? i am trying to get home and contents for a unit, but apparently you don't need home insurance if it has a body corporate. anyhoo i am getting a few quotes from different companies and the prices they are giving me vary greatly. aami was twice as expensive as suncorp. wtf. |

suncorp:
get a discount for tying it all together (car/house/contents) when i was a young fella at uni, went home to cairns for xmas holidays and my rental place got cleaned out TOTALLY while i was gone. had contents insurance then, tried to claim my mates s*** on my policy, the nice insurance assessor suggested that i should probably withdraw and ammend my claim unless i felt like a fraud charge against my name so i did, just put in for my stuff and was all good; |

yeah suncorp isn't that great, I've got my comprehensive car, investment property, home & contents, mortgage insurance, life insurance etc with them
AAMI still beat them when it came to home & contents on my rental property they wouldn't even match it so i have this one odd policy with aami *shrugs* just keep using the online quote tools till you get a good one, all depends on type of dwelling/post code etc i am trying to get home and contents for a unit, but apparently you don't need home insurance if it has a body corporate. true, you only need contents insurance but it won't make a great deal of difference in price I've made a claim with suncorp where I literally lost *everything* that had a power cable in my lounge room and they ponied up, replaced 10K+ worth of stuff that was stolen in redfern .. last edited by tequila at 18:35:51 22/Feb/09 |

take photos, i was kinda lucky in that I had purchased most of my s*** from hardly normal - who were nice enough to re-print all the receipts for me
but they said even for stuff you haven't got a receipt for and can't get one for; a picture is fine as evidence I also had a safe stolen which only the day before had I removed $3k in cash from, there was still exactly $200 left in it and they said $200 was the maximum amount of cash i could claim anyway, so really lucky all in all they were pretty curious about it all, wanted my phone bills for the month prior and month after the incident (this is while they were investigating it) wanted to see who i'd called before/after the robbery to make sure it wasn't an inside job they eventually paid up and one day i just had $10k worth of s*** delivered via courier to my new place, lots of fun there |

any proof of ownership will do:
photos, receipts, packaging etc: i just gave suncorp an approximate dollar value of stuff like cds, clothes and ohter small stuff and they were happy to go off that; |

If you're an RACQ member, then consider them for insurance - you'll likely score a member discount.

AAMI still beat them when it came to home & contents on my rental propertySuncorp owns AAMI (50% of RACQ Insurance as well). So I suppose either way they're getting the money :p But still most Insurance companies only seem to price match 1 competitor per product or something weird like that. I don't know why they don't price match just any competitor...must be to keep prices higher. I find it irritating when you're shopping around for insurance. I've got my car insurance with AAMI and my contents with Suncorp. No problems with either of them. |

I use Suncorp for all home/contents and car. Never had a problem with them for claims for when the house was broken in to and smashed the car.

i agree with vbcoder. NRMA is king, they are the cheapest BY FAR.
IE compo insurance for my falc is $330 a year. That's cheaper than my parents pay for a similarly worth vehicle and i'm <25 not >50 |

yeah well your falcons worth less than $330 so really they're winning anyway try to insure a $50k car with nrma and you too can laugh at their $5000 quotes eh suncorp was $890/yr full comp just for the record the $5000 quote was actually for a wrx and they wanted around $2000 for my hilux last edited by tequila at 22:17:15 22/Feb/09 |
