Are all server chassis psu's for a particular grade case '2U, 3U, 4U' the same dimensions? If so, is there a company that does about 1600W psu's for a 4U case? I looked at zippy's but I don't even know what psu fits what case.

Thank you!

the 2RU chenbro types (ie, build your own) take any old ATX PSU
mostly thats what you're going to find, some of the higher end ones take two PSU's and have a small PCB which regulates the operation of both in a fail over setup

I was looking at a 4U chenbro and was told a normal psu will not fit. The zippy's on auspc only go up to 800W

seems to indicate that average ATX psu's fit

PSU Support:
- PSU Form: PS/2 or Mini-Redundant.
- Max. Wattage: 600 W.

why would a case care on max wattage? or is that just the max they offer in that system?

Also, is a normal psu a ps/2 form factor?

http://www.gtweb.net/pwrsup.html and a few other sites seem to say that PS/2 form factor is the same as AT/ATX form factor , ie what most of us consider "standard".

http://www.informit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=31105&seqNum=3 on the other hand has a s***load of information and just confuses me :)

I have no idea about servers or whatever but my guess would be like a lamp has a max bulb wattage on it, any higher it overheats and melts. There's probably not enough air flow in the case to dissipate any more than 600W? That's just my uninformed and uneducated guess.

thats pretty piss weak for a 4RU case which could end up having dual quad core Xeons or similar in it
the blades we've been using lately at work have 6x2.25kW power supplies in each enclosure

srsly, 13.5kW of power in 10RU
