Seems logical that a gaming forum be used for chat about astronomy. So anyway I just picked up this link to the podcasts of a nice looking astronomy site/show.

have a read of this, it's an article showing some of the things that we've gotten from NASA's space programme. It's for kids so it might be a bit complicated but let me know if you have trouble with some of the big words! |

I want to see proof that Man landed on the Moon. f***ing oath STFU. imagine how much better our planet would be if billions of dollars was spent on it instead of pointless space missions Imagine how much less interesting things would be if we didn't go into space 50 years ago... People just need to get the f*** over space. Nothing mind boggling awesome will happen in our life times and so far all people have to justify why they think its awesome is "omfg maen, space is hueg" Tell that to an astronaut. I'm pretty sure going into space would be the most life changing event in a person's life. no one here is into that crap Parabol is, exo prolly is, I am, trog might be, hell even FaceMan prolly is into this "space" thing. Zub obviously likes space a bit. Let's derail this thread by bringing up stupidly retarded conspiracies and astronomy hate topics... |

Faceman, I've personally used laser distancing, bouncing off reflectors placed at the moon landing, to measure our distance from the Moon. It's actually getting further away from us, scary but at least it's not going to crash into us. It simply wouldn't work bouncing off the surface of the moon.
Unfortunatly I doubt any comercially available telescopes would be able to see any of the equipment left over. IIRC the landers are about 9-10 meters long and even the observatory telescopes need objects to be about ~50-60m LxW to be able to show up as a blip. As for your pictures, Mayonase on the lense? Looks like an Ascended being to me though! |

hahah so $10b dollars could probably abolish poverty in all of the entire world, but instead its spent on flying to the moon to collect rock samples? I guess we do need those aerodynamic bike wheels and ski boots. Imo pay me $10b to go through the rocks in my back yard kthnx |

I want to see proof that Man landed on the Moon.I want to see evidence that man didn't land on the moon. Actually who even cares? Man has been in space. That should be enough. Man being sent to the moon was probably the most useless exploration event ever. Sending robots to Mars, now that's awesome. |

hahah so $10b dollars could probably abolish poverty in all of the entire world, but instead its spent on flying to the moon to collect rock samples? I guess we do need those aerodynamic bike wheels and ski boots. We're always going to be spending money on science. Its a simple fact. You people who hate science because it "takes away from money we can give poor people" need to lighten the f*** up. If I want to do a uni degree to learn, I do it, I don't think "but I could give my $30,000 to poor people instead, wtf am I thinking going to uni when I can give away everything?!". Some people spend money on making other people's lives better, some people spend it on living life, some people spend it furthering humanity, curing diseases, and learning about our universe. Look where electricity got us. There's a reason we have a large brain, and while humans are curious, we'll be spending money on science. Hey everyone, let's stay in the f***ing dark ages cause some people think we shouldn't further our knowledge of the Universe... sigh. last edited by 3dee at 16:00:09 27/Jan/09 |

imo the space program needs a funding boost.
Instead of spending all of the space programs cash on poverty, how about diverting some of the trillion dollars the americans spend on their military?! |

casa stop being a f***nut. If you care so much about poverty how about you donate all of your belongings and savings to the millions of africans who are starving?
Lead by example, not via arm-chair. Anyway it looks like we have clear skies tonight. If I can manage to: 1. find a good observing spot to see North 2. get my webcam working (it's borked) 3. actually get the planet into view .. there may be Saturn pics coming up. |

To save the animals from God's wrath with the attempted destruction of the Nephilim? It's freaking god, he's all powerful or something, as yoda says: 'Do or do not, there is no try' Couldn't he just will them all out of existence? btw back on topic: Space is cool I feel sorry for the person who feels content they know enough. |
