I saw this last night and was pleasantly entertained. This is by no means Oscar material but Tom Cruise is just a damn good actor in my opinion (shame about the Scientology bit). I was skeptical about the whole Nazi officers speaking english thing but by about 30 mins in I had forgotten about it and was immersed in the plot.

It is nerve wracking in parts but given the outcome is already known, the feeling of dread wells in your stomach long before the climax.

Valkyrie has authentic sets and costumes but for historical accuracy it doesn't compare to Downfall and I found myself comparing the two movies constantly.
The movie was entertaining and enjoyable for any WW2 buff although not something you need to rush off to the cinema to see.

I really don't like Tom Cruise ... he's bats*** crazy.

I think Tom Cruise is an excellent actor, i'll watch one of his movies, but i would probably punch him in his face if i saw him irl.

Same as MJ, listen to his music - hes a genious or the musical kind, but i have been saving a punch in the no-nose for him for a while now.

Everything he has ever been in has been nothing but s***. He is a s*** actor who makes s*** movies, how anyone can like his movies is beyond me. But each to his own.

I don't think Tom Cruise is a great actor. He is good at pretending to be a certain type of person to good effect. The headstrong/and or angry man character. i.e. Magnolia, Minority Report.

Tom Cruise movies are usually pretty good, he's not a 'great actor' but he is highly entertaining and as someone said he portrays certain characters very well.

Never wanted to see this movie from day one, because of him. If he put effort in and done a german accent, then maybe..

Still, the movie was okay.

I forgive using English for dialog, however it does make a HUGE difference if the English dialog is at least accented.

Also, even though he is a decent actor, I cant help but think about how much of a raving loony he is every time I see his face now. It totally destroys any of his attempted characters for me now.

Ugh, I'm exactly the same, those are easily my two favourite movies with him in it. While I must say him being a religious nutcase turned me off him a little, in the end he's not really directly doing any harm, and you're all correct, he does play a certain type of character well and that's the strong, quiet, partly crazy type, which makes sense really.

On the other hand, however, is Mel Gibson, who is a racist f*** and I now would seriously reconsider actually going and paying money to see a film with him in it. But then, I suppose I think of him as a pretty s*** actor anyway, nothing like Cruise.

Tom is crap no if buts or maybes. He is one of the few actors that actually looks like he is acting. s*** even when the guy talks in an interview he looks like he is acting. It's almost as if he has been so cut off from the world living in this little bubble of his for the past 20+ years that he has no idea how to react to things as a normal person would.

Seriously take a look on youtube at some of this crackpots speaches on behalf of the cult of scientology. I am not talking about that BS from last Jan either, everything this guy does and every word that comes out of his mouth comes across as so utterly contrived. It's almost as if his life is just made up of out takes from a bad movie .

To top it off the d******* slams the s*** out of people that bag Scientology yet he hasn't got off his high and mighty arse to actually look into the claims of it's critics. A classic example of this BS hypocrissy is the interview he did with Matt Lauer.



Aparently Tom is so rihgtous as he clearly points out to Matt that studies things .... he knows this that and what the f*** ever else. Yet he doesn't ask questions about that s***ty f***ing cult that he promotes that has f***ed so many people over.

the interviewer in that vid is a bit of a prick. tom clearly states his position, that those drugs mask the problem instead of solving it yet "matt" repeats over and over that tom should acknowledge they work for some ppl. was a pretty obvious attack interview designed to make him look bad.

there are lots of examples of tom being crazy, that aint one of em.

I kind of agree with Tom about having a responsibility to find out what some of these common drugs are and how they work. I haven't looked into the science of Ritalin myself but there is a lot of controversy around it, so it wouldn't surprise me if it is dodgy.

Saw the original film on SBS the other night and thought it an interesting... although I could imagine Hollywood have raped the remake and added all the usual clichéd bulls*** that they always do...

I just saw this movie.

In response to the Tom Cruise hate... He is a great actor. He does a very good job portraying his characters and immersing the viewer into the plot.

It is a shame he is part of such a crackpot religion, but to be honest who cares. He is paid to act in movies, not to please us by doing what we think he should do in life.

As far as the movie itself. I was very impressed with the level of detail taken with props and costumes, which i guess is helped out by having a large hollywood budget. The story has been told before but I think they did a great job.

You would be surprised the amount of people who do not even know much about modern history or even hitler himself. This is probably one of the most talked about assassination attempts on hitler's life. There are still plenty of others around like.

The only innacurate part in this movie was they only credited Stauffenburg for making two plots against hitler's life. When in true fact he made three. The first was suppose to have occurred at the Berghof (One of hitlers private residences) on July 11th 1944. I am pretty sure this is not mentioned in the movie because he aborted the plan as hitler was not there.
