Topic: Where's all the decent movies gone?

Sigh. So it seems I must have watched just about everything ever released that gets over about a 6 on IMDB. Sadly I have a very vivid memory when it comes to movies and TV shows - am going through my very vast collections here looking for something to watch but everything's either just not re-watchable, or I can remember it too well to enjoy watching it again :(

Put it this way: There's so much stuff here that's not watching that even Xanadu, Scarface and The Breakfast Club are on my MyBook (plus The Andromeda Strain and The China Syndrome are in the DVD collection... and no, I meant the originals, not the remakes). To make it worse, work are closed until the 5th and I can't do much riding, so I'll be home bored s***less. Seven Pounds was kinda meh (5-6/10), kinda looking forward to Religulous, Yes Man and Frost/Nixon, but I think that's about it that's out soon.

So, does anyone have any suggestions of obscure but half-decent movies to watch?

And no, I don't feel like watching Xanadu again, but chick flicks are not off-limits.

Yeah I'm so bored and sick of all the recent crap that's come out at the movies. I wouldn't mind going to see that Madagascar 2 movie though, who wants to come with me?

Jesus Christ there's even a directory on the server titled 'McLeods Daughters\Season 8'.

Well I guess if I get really desperate I know where I'll end up :/ (answer: hanging by a rope from the ceiling probably if it gets that bad).

I'll google/imdb some of those you mentioned, Alt_F4. Points for listing Heat, Bowling and Blood Diamond (all good).
Strange, seems I haven't seen Taken.

The Office and Super Troopers always re-watchable for me :p

TV Series are where its at right now.
I'd much rather watch a few eps of Dexter than a movie, far more epic!

THE WIRE (it is a TV series). Dude, seriously, this is the best series that is doing the rounds!!!!!

Not too sure about The Wire 'doing the rounds'...if it's the one I'm thinking of it was doing the rounds about 7 yrs ago. Not a terrible show though. Just watched JCVD the other day, if you can put up with subtitles it is a good, quirky movie out of left field. Van Damme's best work well, ever.

Predator - just re watched the original - great show
Hunt for Red October gets a vote for me also
Cape Fear
Lock Stock etc.....

i go for movies to re watch that don't rely so much on wiz bang effects but are more on story content. i find it hard watching "old" movies because technology changes so much that they easily seem dated these days. i mean real techo effects which is why Predator still rates a mention.

Depends if you like burton or not and can sit through a black and white movie but Ed Wood is awesome, Terry Gilliam stuff, 12 Monkeys, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I thought the Prestige was good, 13th Floor, Dark City are all worth a watch. Then there's old old stuff, The Shining, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, 2001 Space Odyssey.

Recent movies though not much comes to mind other than Gran Torino which was awesome, cranky old clint eastwood telling kids to get off his lawn = awesome.

The house bunny (lol)

I have the same "problem". I watch on average 5-7 movies per week at work, so it's hard finding new stuff that's good. There's a lot of foreign films I want to watch, but I can't read subtitles and work at the same time. Been meaning to see Le Couperet for a while now, but haven't found the time to watch it at home.

Just watched Humboldt County. Gets most of a thumbs up from me. Kind of like Garden State, but not as good. Not a bad effort though.

Into the Wild is another good one I stumbled across by accident.

Transamerica is another excellent movie, if you can get past the whole transexual thing.

There's a few movies I need to dig up and watch again:
Office Space
Dazed & Confused
Kill Bill
A Simple Plan
Shaun of the Dead
Lord of the Rings Series
The Cube
Memento
O Brother Where Art Thou
Mystic River
Very Bad Things
The Machinist
3:10 to Yuma
Rescue Dawn
and a whole heap of others that pop into my head then I forget before writing it down.

Why not watch some TV series? Some good ones imo:
The Unit
Dexter
The Wire
West Wing
6ft Under
House
Californication
Married with Children
King of the Hill
Generation Kill
Band of Brothers
Sleeper Cell
The Wonder Years
Weeds
(I could go on, but that'll do)

Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino is pretty dope.

I'd watch Breaking Bad if you already haven't.

But yeah pickings are slim atm.

is Taken out on DVD yet? I've already seen it but wanna see it again.

Also watch American Gangster, Rise of the Foot Soldier (if you haven't already seen it yet as it's a lil old) and Street Kings.

I love my gritty suburban gangster s***.

American Gangster is boring. It's a good enough story but moves way too slow.

With D Washington in it, the slower it moves the longer it lasts.

Just like blue magic baby.

Havent read all the suggestions but these few are the shizbang. Not brand new but maybe you havent seen em.

- letters from iwo jima
- flags of our fathers
- no country for old men
- last king of scotland
- this is england
- football factory / green street hooligans
- Hotel Rwanda
- thank you for smoking

also make sure you have watched through the sopranos, Oz, the shield. The finale of the shield was so awesome.

Just checked out Real Time starring Randy Quaid and some young random guy and it was damn good. Extremely slow moving but it's something different to what I've seen lately.
