Topic: Game Damage - new games show pilot

Was linked to this a little while ago.

This is a web pilot for a new gamers show. One of the presenters is Yahtzee (the reviewer from excellent games review site/vlog Zero Punctuation (found here)). I found the pilot pretty entertaining, though with a (I'm told decent) games show already on the ABC (namely Good Game) there may be no room for a new show locally.

Anyway, watch and whatever. If you haven't seen any reviews on Zero Punctuation before then I recommend you watch at least one, they tend to be funny and hugely accurate from a gamer's point of view unlike half the trash on so-called review sites.

That's the guys that run Australiangamer . Looks better/more informed than Good Game and other Aussie efforts I've seen so best of luck to them. Would do well in a fifteen minute or half hour if they could stretch it TV time-slot.

Personally though, in terms of internet viewing, I find watching segment shows like that a waste of time, since you sit through parts of little interest only to catch a few tidbits of information on the types of games you actually like. At least reading a news site you just scroll past, watching a video you tend to (or at least I do) just keep watching so you don't miss anything.

video on the internet should be limited to no more than 2 minute clips of people getting hurt hilariously, naked women, or movie trailers

Hence why I've disliked the various video interviews and whatnot Ausgamers has been running. I would REALLY like a transcript to scan through that to find what I want.

Maybe if they had bookmarks for the clip so you could skip to what you are interested in or something...

Also this Zero Punctuation review of Left 4 Dead is a good example of Yahtzee's style. Anyone who has played Left 4 Dead and not seen any of these reviews may appreciate that fact that the reviewer has very obviously actually played the game he is reviewing. Which helps reviews a lot IMHO.

Yep, I definitely agree that video interviews like that should get transcribed and it's something we want to do going forward but our resources are somewhat limited at present so we just do what we can.

The video still has it's place though and some people are going to prefer to watch rather than read. A good example would be our TGS Peter Molyneux Fable 2 interview, where he was walking Steve through the game. Wouldn't have been as interesting in text, where you wouldn't be able to see what was going on in the game.

Yeah, I didn't think it was that amazing, but as said above, I reckon if they got the chance to do a few more, it could be pretty entertaining. The DNF sketches got a chuckle out of me.

Having said that though, if it still doesn't improve after another 2 or so eps, I'd say it's a dead end.

The guys have good content, they just aren't comfortable in front of a camera and it's kinda painful to watch. Hopefully with time they will get better.

So a trailer for a movie about naked women being hurt in hilarious ways? :p

Awww, makes me miss Brisbane.

I found it entertaining enough, mostly because I'm so oblivious of anything happening in the gaming industry that it was informative, and knowing who the presenters are also helps maintain interest.
