This is awesome!
WebTrak is an innovative system providing the community with information on where and how high aircraft fly, as well as noise levels of these operations.

WebTrak uses information from air traffic control secondary surveillance radars to monitor aircraft:

* within 55 km of the airport
* up to a height of 3000m above ground level

Aircraft noise data is downloaded daily from noise monitors strategically located about the communities close to the airport.

It basically shows a map of the city centred around the airport. Flights are shown in pseudo real-time (40 min delay for "security reasons"), or you can rewind time and play back data from earlier in the day. Hover the mouse over over a plane and you get the flight number, altitude, etc. If a plane goes over a noise monitor (gray circle) you get a noise-level reading for the plane.

Seriously, check it out. This is why I love the interwebs!

I don't think it's real-time. It's a replay on a 30min delay. Still, very nice web-app.

I did this a couple of years ago using a GPS reciever and Google Earth on a Qantas flight out of Mt Isa after a work contract road trip I was on finished up, but Air Services doing something like this near realtime is just too cool

The overlay looks much quicker than Google Earths KML network links

I put my bluetooth GPS in my backpack and road my 26km ride to work and recorded it on my SonyEriccsson W880i using GPS Track

GPS Track can then email as KML so you can see in Google Earth.

Resolution is really good especially considering I ride the new Eastlink bike path which is not on the Google Earth maps yet - so it was cool to see where they have de-forrested :-)

I'd show you but I don't want you to know where I live or where I work :-P

Nope, can't find any planes near the mentioned location at the specified time (even tried non-DST time and also 40 minute advancement).

It appears to only track commercial airline flights, so I doubt you'll find the planes that crashed.
