SO Im up for a new GTR and Im looking at getting a Guitar Rig 3 with it.
Was gonna get this or one of the FatStrats Squires.
Thought Id see what ppl thought and any other ideas in the range $500.
Not doing any gigging and its really just for home studio use.
Although i might have to upgrade my Logitech 5.1s.

By the time i get the gt3 Im at $900 which is pretty much my budget.
But uhh yeah around the $500 $600.
Would like a good set of Pickups on the gtr too.

Might even be tempted to go all the way to $1000 for s*** hot gtr.
haha there goes my budget.

Also have you guys used online stores ?
Bit worried about a GTR shipped to me.
Hopefully they wont use Swift and Shift Couriers.

Stuff getting a strat.

For $500 - $600 get something like an ESP or Jackson etc.

You're not going to get a great guitar for that price, may as well get a fast one. ESP Viper-50's run under $500 and play s*** hot for the price.
Also have you guys used online stores ?
I bought all my ESP's through www.venuemusic.com.au over the years.

No problems at all, some came with TNT, some came with contractors.

Yeah not sure I would bother with a strat unless your getting an american one..
(me hugs his 60th anniversary american strat)

For $500ish, can't go wrong with a yamaha pacifca 112, bloody good guitars for the money and you can whack some decent pickups in it for abit of a upgrade down the track.

Yeah I agree on the Yamaha Pacifica, much nicer then any Fender you would get for the price.

Non-American Fenders aren't that bad but for gods sake don't get a Squire.

yeah i been looking at the American Highway1 Strats...$1300
They are like the American Standard ones but with very hot pickups and a different Finish on the body.

Went to Ellaways at kedron and they have a great range of axes but holy s*** they are exxy. The guy i was talking to said he'd try and match any online price but i doubt they could. I'd like to Try the GUITAR personally which i cant do if i buy online.

you won't get a nice strat for under several thousand bucks unless you happen across a nice second handy. their low-end guitars are horrid even ones as expensive as the american deluxe.
I definitely agree with the comments about the yamaha pacifica 112 if you're after a cheapy

Agreed!! Yamaha make good affordable guitars. Carvin are a good bet for sub $1000 as well. Depends what kind of music you play. If you are considering buying a squier or a RLY SIC GTR FOR LIEK $1000 then probably doesn't matter what guitar you are playing.

im liking this one now lol

the only problem i have with fenders is the volume knob. I like to have the palm of my hand sit over the bass strings at the bridge which leaves my lower fingers bumping into the volume knob.

Yeah Jackson's look pretty sweet.

I've found Jackson's/ESP's all play fast regardless of price, good bolt on necks, depends if that's something you're looking for.

Shhh Jim.

They might not be the best quality or sound the best compared to more expensive guitars but they do have fast necks on them.

I originally played Gibson but you couldn't convince me to go back to them or similar necks.

I need my extra jumbo frets and a full 2 octaves thank you very much :)

How long have you been playing for?

You might not need a $1400 guitar especially if it's breaking some kind of budget.

You should check out Tym Guitars in the valley. They've got heaps of decent priced stuff, i picked up an '04 Fender Mustang for $850 about a year ago. The shop itself is a little hard to find, its upstairs in a clothes shop a couple of doors down the street from butterbeats. I think they've got a pricelist on this site

I can't believe that through this whole thread, nobody has even thought to ask him what style of music he's interested in playing. Imo even before current skill level it's the most important thing you want to consider when choosing.

If you like modern metal, strats aren't a very sane choice. Likewise jacksons and ESPs shouldn't be the top of your list if you're going to be playing bluegrass. Of course you can play the same songs on most guitars, but picking up a big hollowbody gretsch would be retarded if you want to play slipknot songs.

So yeah, before you get any more ideas, how about some more information? Also, stop calling them gtrs, nobody does that... ever.

cos he's a nub on a budget
it doesn't really matter what sort of music he thinks he might wanna play right now, any guitar will do. chances are that learning guitar might even contribute toward him changing his likes in music and what he likes playing after 6/12/18 months too

why try and pidgeonhole a playstyle toward a type of guitar anyway imo.
get one (or more!) that you like, one you love the feel and tone of, one that helps inspire you and just play it

nub ? haha
i recently got back into playing after breaking up with a bitch.
bitches always ruin musicians.

The only 'working' gtr i have is a 30 yrold V with the paf humbuckers.
it near impossible to play sitting down so i want a gtr i can sit at/near the comp and use a Gutiar Rig 3 with.
I want pick-ups that i can get the most use out of hence why i was going with the hot rails squire.

I found some Ibanez gtrs with switchable pickups that look very good and the volume knob wont get in the way of the way i play.
Always wanted to own a strat but after a quick play yesterday i rem why i never had one.
not interested in floyd rose etc.
I only found them useful if you were in a working band.
