Topic: Cheapest wisdom teeth removal?

Looking for the cheapest place to get all my wisdoms out under a local anaesthetic. Guessing I'll need an x-ray and all that as well.

What did you pay? Did you have to see a normal dentist and then get referred, or did the one guy do it all?

I live in Yeronga so this side of the river would be preferable. That dentist at UQ could also be an option if anyone has been there? Saturday option would be fantastic.

Cheers

The dental school, if you don't mind newbies ripping them out as a 'learning' experience..

I'd prefer to have my nerves intact afterwards... I don't want facial paralysis :(

My advice: Don't go to Greenslopes hospital. Had mine done a couple of years ago, and after the op the patient is not supposed to go to sleep and you're supposed to be checked on constantly for a certain period of time until they clear you to go home. Two seconds after the staff dumped me in a bed and closed the curtain 90% of the way I fell asleep. Luckily the guy in the bed across from me was able to see in and called the nurses to say I had blood running down my face that had pooled up in my mouth. Then when I got home I spent ages coughing up in the sick after they'd scratched my throat up in the op so I kept feeling like I was choking.

Medland in Annerly do it for $100 xray and $130 for tooth pull. They give you gas before the needles come out. Surgery performed under 'local'. Cute nurse rubbing your shoulder and your choice of music to listen to thru headphones (to disguise the sound of breaking teeth).

cost will depend massively on whether you can have them pulled by a general dentist or whether there is some issue that requires you to have it done by an oral/maxillofacial surgeon. You will need to go to a good general dentist first to see what their opinion is.

If you get a general they can stick their knee in the middle of your chest, reef your mouth open wide enough to take John Holmes load and rip on that bad boy tooth like its a victor lawn mower that won't start.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll check out that Indian dude and Medland and see what the go is.

Sure a general would be nice, but I've gotta fork out for braces (again) after this, so I can't afford to spend thousands if a local will do the same job.

Spook, did that price include an xray?

why the hell didnt your ortho yank out the teeth before giving you braces? most can see if they are going to give you problems later on.

Na I literally got NO molars left, all 12 c***s are gone, 10 of them were impacted, then they removed the other 2 because they were half suss and had nothing to bite against.

My mouth was pretty f***ed, I had a 3rd set of teeth actually that they have to remove via surgery through my gums.

Wifey cost about $3k through specalists, surgery, hospital beds, etc. We ended up paying about $1k though because of private health.

First time I had braces it was with some cheap idiot (yes I realise the irony) because that's all my family could afford.

Medland could be the go then, I definitely want an xray before they come out in case there are any foreseeable problems.

Got mine out when I was 18 in my first week of uni. Free under private health care.

general anesthetic is the only way to go, then plenty of panadeine forte.

Depends on how long ago he got his braces the first time as to whether they were showing any sign of causing problems later.

i would go for local given the choice. you can work with the dentist with yur neck muscles so he doesn't have to brace your head or put his knee on yur chest. also you can give him that 'oi! that hurts' look if he starts working a nerve ending. you will end up with less pain & blood in the long run & alls ya have to put up with is a couple of bone cracking sounds.

i've had 7 wisdom teeth out!... & i still have a full compliment of teeth! the first 4 that came out were followed by 3 more that didn't come through straight coz they had 3more compacting behind them. my dentist rekns i must be part shark :D

I'd been getting massive pains with what i thought were wisdom teeth coming through and i thought i could feel them under the surface... Turns out i don't have ANY wisdom teeth, and the intense pains i was getting for days at the time is due to a muscular thing.. I'm still shocked by it, apparently the lumps i can feel with my tongue is a normal part of the skull. So no operation for me (yay).

Yep.

I scummed forte and tramadol off the surgeon, a full week of munching those weak painkillers every 4 hours puts you in pretty drugged state.

Best thing about the op was the pain killers. Was in a foul mood for days after coz of pain and just generally having a very swollen face, so I slept pretty much all week on the couch. Pain killers helped knock me straight out

The chemicals in meth cause a reduction in saliva production, which in turn allows acids and bacteria to attack the teeth and gums. Some users also grind their teeth due to anxiety brought on by meth use, or use sweet drinks to moisten their mouths, further speeding decay

Wisdom teeth is one of those things where different people have completely different procedures. Mine apparently wasn't even that bad but I was completely f***ed after it (I had general) and was practically unconscious for a couple days afterwards. I had massive swelling and huge yellow/blue bruising all over my face that lasted 2 weeks before it was all gone.

By contrast a girlfriend of mine had hers done and she had barely no impact at all, was chewing (finely sliced!) steak the same night, barely had any swelling or bruising.

The roots of my teeth actually went up a little bit near my sinuses, so when they were yoinked there was only a little bit of tissue between my mouth and my sinus cavity. So in addition to painkillers etc I was also on like hardcore antihistamine things to try to make sure I didn't need to sneeze - because the danger was if I did, I'd blow a hole inside my head, which while not dangerous, would have complicated matters.

I've heard stories of people having to get their jaws broken to allow retrieval of teeth and all sorts of other f***ed up s***.

I suspect if your dentist tells you you only need a local, yours will probably be relatively easy to get out. Assuming you're not using the most budget dude you can find... in which case asking here isn't the WORST idea in the world as it at first seems (as opposed to, say, asking your dentist).

All my teeth were basically removed before braces, which were from grade 6 - 8.

Doubt I was using meth back in primary school.

Also huzzah for private health care.
