Who's got a shaw psu? I was going to buy one off ebay for 60 bucks posted until i realised that umart had the 850W for $33. Anyone using this brand with no problems or do they have short life span?

Just bought new video card because dust burnt out my 575Mhz? 8800gts and few weeks later bought a new case with better airflow(Antec 900). Think i burndid the mobo out by not seating the 24pin power connector in properly. I replaced it with a backup mobo I had laying round but it had issues in its previous system of a mates. I also purchased a AM2 6000X2 with the antec 900 case because they're cheap. So now with new gtx280 and 6000X2 I wish to have a copious wattage PSU if im going for a new mobo and probably 1066 ram(from 4 sticks of 533).

My current PSU is 525W Enermax.

I bought a really cheap one from MSY for like $30. Its like 700w or something. Its not too bad but its limited on connectors and very very noisy. Not bad for the price though, I only wanted it for a real basic computer, but the thing has a 12cm fan in it that spins at about 8000rpm.

Generally spend the extra $$$ on a PSU, you'd be nuts to get a cheap PSU if you want your hardware to last. Last thing you want is to lose a few thousand dollars because you didn't spend the extra 100$ on a decent PSU.

Stay away. Seriously. I've dealt with a lot of cheap PSUs over the years and I'd have to say these are the worst. I've probably bought about 4 and each one has died. Inside warranty though.

The only cheap PSU i can recommend is Codegen. They are a 'generic' PSU, I must have bought 30 or 40 over the years and I've only ever had one failure. And that was in 2002. Other than that, just bite the bullet and buy a brand name PSU, you'll thank yourself for it later.

Pro tip: Stay away from Shaw.

cheap s***, you don't get a real 850W PSU for 30 bux...

you don't need 850w, you need a high quality psu with around a 550W rating.

Do not spend less than $100 on a PSU.

550W is the recommended (by Nvidia) minimum PSU for a gtx280. High quality is the key here.
