We recently got a slow cooker, and wondered if the culinary QGLers had any tasty recipes and tips for using them? I gotta say, I never thought I'd type the above sentence... ever. |

We had a silverside (corn beef) in a slow cooker tonight for dinner. Cooked it for 6 hours and I tell ya what! it melts in the mouth. Curry's are great too, just get some cheap choice meat cuts like blade and bob's yer uncle. |

The great thing about slow cookers is being able to cook pretty much whatever you want in them; curries, roasts, stews, soups, pasta sauces/spaghetti bolognaise etc. We experiment with ours all the time

Yeah I did a silverside the other night... very nice. I tried a stroganoff type thing tonight, and it turned out a bit watery. I think I've been adding too much liquid to things because I'm expecting more evaporation or something.

Very simple one for those days when you just want to sit straight down to dinner after a long day: can of soup (minestrone etc) + can of water + meat simple and tasty

And if you don't like flowers in your food, you may substitute this with flour instead.

lamb is always good...
this is good for winter. lamb cutlets, cup of beef stock, half cup red wine, barley (washed), carrots, baby potatoes, can of whole peeled tomatoes. chuck it all in, let it cook for a few hours. mmm. |

What I love cooking in my slow cooker is steak. Buy some cheap steak, stew it in there with a few vegies and gravey. Few hours later take it out and whack it on some fresh bread rolls. The steak just melts in your mouth and tastes soo good. Always wondered what would happen in I opened a store selling stewed steak sandwhiches

Lamb shanks (browned), red wine, chicken stock, celery, carrot, fresh thyme, fresh rosemary, tomato paste.
Put all in slow cooker for about 4 hours. Serve on a bed of Cannelini Beans. Best. Edit: Forgot to add tomato paste. You have to add about a TBSP of tomato paste as well. last edited by Pharcyde at 09:34:04 18/Sep/08 |

Pharcyde's is a good one.
Check the instruction manual with the cooker, they should have some recipes in there which are very simple. |

f*** slow cooking that's for grandmas (or elderly preop transexuals in the case of mantrap)
Anything you can do in a slow cooker you can do in a preasure cooker, and a s*** load faster! |

Curries are awesome in the slow cooker. My wife does them every now and then, absolutely awesome. There are heaps of excellent recipes on the web for slow cookers.
