I reciently ordered one of these Popcorn A110 devices (long wait on delivery), just curious now that ive spent my money if anyone has any thoughts on them or seen them in action. Won't really make any difference, I am buying one anyways, but am curious if people have any mods or tips.

ill be interested to hear how you go with yours keato
theres a few of these types of boxes out there now, ive been eyeing them off for a while instead of maybe finishing off my media machine; i still like/need the option of being able to pull up imdb or qgl (to write my review) on my media machine though |

form what I can tell, it doesn't come with an integrated digital TV tuner.. Thats the only thing that would stop me buying one. :<

I was going to get one a while back but there's more value for money with some similar devices with HDMI on ebay. If you have a spare hdd you save more too.

No it doesn't but for $264 Delivered and inbuilt Newsleacher, it does almost everything else.
Out of the box support for a USB Wireless adapter, torrents and newsleacher, Sata support. I am worried it actually seems too good to be true.. And does HDMI ; Audio/Video outputs HDMI v1.3a (up to 1080p) last edited by Keato at 11:19:28 11/Sep/08 last edited by Keato at 11:19:54 11/Sep/08 |

What a neat device - shame it doesn't have a DVB tuner and/or was able to act like a MythTV frontend.

I have had an A-100 model unit for a couple of months now. Best $200 I've spent in a long time.
You'll love it a little bit more each time you use it, Keato. |

Creepy, I did some searches on it and a few people had issues (Lots more said they didnt).
Any problems with ; Heat? Menu system with 30 videos+ in a folder? Video Streaming via your PC with a tuner? last edited by Keato at 12:04:15 11/Sep/08 |

Damn that's impression little machine. I bought the MediaGate one a couple months back and it's working just fine. Not as good as this Popcornhour though...

A couple of the guys here have them on order and have been waiting weeks (months) for them to arrive now. They sound decent in spec, not so sure on the UI though, looks a little gumby compared to the one's I've grown accustomed to (xbmc/mediaportal).

Keato - no real problems to speak of. I did install an internal drive, but haven't used it too much - where my stuff is positioned, I pretty much sneakernet video files via external USB.
Plays ripped Blu-rays, MKVs, DVD ISOs without missing a beat. Even new release QT movie trailers in HD. Haven't had any heat issues either. |

Sweet.
I read a review that said they are looking at allowing UI Skins in the near future, that will be awesome. Would love to see someone port Plex. http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2008/07/osx_media_application_centerstage_merges_with_plex-2.html |

I have the cs615 by Ziova; same Sigma Designs chipset.
PH has a much bigger community, I kind of wish I'd checked out PH first, but I have to say the Ziova unit is a pretty sweet player (and aussie!) Would be good to read a comparison on the two; but I'm happy. |

cs615 by Ziova looks like not a bad unit as well.
What did it cost ? |

I think it was like $330 US. Once it has MKV playback (any week now) I'll be set.
It's pretty sweet. Just need to provide adequate circulation around tbe device, and away you go. PH does lots of things than just play media; if this is a good thing, remains to be seen. |

I was all set to get the Ziova 615 (since I bought the Zensonic Z500 the week it came out). But Popcorn came out first, and I was lured instantly.
I'm still keeping an eye on Ziova - their US office is just down the road from where I live, too. :) |
